The thing wid van der vaart IMO is he is a utility player who can cover almost every position in midfield except DM and he wud be a great asset for us

VDV is ineffective on the wings. He's been tried there by the Dutch NT and he's been tried there several times with Real Madrid. He's either an attacking mid or a second forward.

When have you seen him do well on the wing? His biggest problem at Real right now, and the reason why he is so rarely played is because he is ineffective on the wing.

TBH, whenever i watched him play for Hamburg he always played as a second striker alongside Ivica Olic. But admittedly i do not watch much Bundesliga.
