Yeah RvN is the best striker in the world with Vieri. However if RvN gets injured, MU have no substitute.....Forlan? Yeah we all saw what a 'great' player he is when he came in front of an empty net against Juve :D
Ok, lets hope he gets injured for 6 monthes or somethin' :D

isn't there something seriously fücked up about this list?

A Player who played 1082min in the Champions League Scored 5Goals and 1Assist and guided his Team To the Final isn't even nominated

I think Thuram for Defender not that because he is Juve but because he is the greatest,
But The Italian Lobby will probably make sure Maldini gets that one :(

Also how can Pippo not be in the list he scored more in CL then Vieri who almost only scored league goals...

Some Names are purely there for commerical reasons
Nesta and Roberto Carlos come to mind, Nesta did have a nice maiden season in Milan Costacurta was even at times choosen before him to partner Maldini.... Roberto Carlos played CL Last8 worst Defense so he shouldn't be there either,
Altough a lot of the Defensive weren't commited by him is mostly because he was up in attack when Madrid was being hit with Counter Attacks....

Also one can only start to begin to notice the influnce and power of Rupert Murdochs media empire and their lobbying strength,
Why do you people think its Paul Scholes on that list and not David Beckham who has been there for the past 2 years
(could it be because someone was sold  )

And Paul Scholes doesn't deserve to be there....
Neither does Beckham but thats a different story....

Any fan of English football who has the slightest idea of what they're talking about will tell you taht Scholes is a better player than Beckham.

Add to that the fact that Beckham was dropped for most of Man Utd's key games last season, and spent the only one he did start for (Real Madrid in the quarters) pottering about looking awed.

I see alot of Thurams, but do you guys honestly think he was that great to be MVP defender. I love the guy dont get me wrong and he is at the same level as Nesta IMO, but because Milan won, Nesta or Maldini will get it. Nesta, because he was Milans best defender. Maldini is a close candidate because of his name and reputation. And that annoys me. i love the guy, i even have his jersey, but just to win an award for your image isnt cool. he was great, but not as great as Nesta.

    Yeah Maldini will take it.

An interesting point, is that if Milan had defeated us in the Italian Super Cup, Maldini would have been closer to clinch the golden ball...now Nedved looks closest again :)

Hopefully Milan will lose the European super cup too, so less chances for Maldini :D
do you have any info on golden ball. like when its going to be awarded and who are the candidates... i dont know how it works...

This reply to my post Just prooves how much power the media empire of Rupert Murdoch holds over peoples mind

Golden Ball is done with NT Coaches being given a list of candidates and submitting 3 (n1 gets 5points, n2 gets 3points and n3 gets 1 point)

Just two years ago Beckham finished second runner up for a conesecutive year for the golden ball, why because the media had managed to convince so many people in SOuth East Asisa and Oceania that Beckham really was the best player because he got the most publicity.

He even got a movie titled about him (Bend it Like Beckham) that was a boxoffice hit.

As far back as a few months ago in that Real Madrid game that you said he was pottering around looking awed,
Commentators were praising Beckham for nearly turning the game around with his two goals and being the difference between success and failure for Man U.

No don't get me wrong I hate Beckham and I have never regarded him as third best in the world, but he is still better then Scholes altough suddenly Media has started portraying him as the Male Anna Kournikova of football, while before he was the England prodigy that was called the best in the world by EPL supporters.

For me Beckham is Beckham a right winger that shares the class of Zambrotta.
And I regard him a better midfileder then Scholes, jJust as Giggs is and Roy Keane also is better then Scholes

AS Far as All this RVN being a Goal Demon thats just media talking to you again Murdoch, Man U and Vodafone need a new poster kid, this is going to be RVN.

I remember the day Veron was signed to Man U Soccernet.com which is a respected site, gathered quotes from near and far from people saying
"Veron is the best player in Seria A"
"Veron is the best midfielder in the World"
"Veron is the best player in the world"
This is the same kind of manipulation its been going on ever since Cantona who is also way overrated and never was better then Papin, and far worst then both Henry and Trezeguet
but is now in Manchester considered a living legend....

True the media praises him all the time, but he has every right to be praised. He's proved himself and it's not just the media that got him to his level.......it's his goals. Just because the media is making all this hype doesn't mean they're wrong. I have yet to see a forward in this period of time that's as efficient and accurate as he is.

Toldo/Buffon - a tie, this is a tough one. That inter-valencia match alone could give toldo this award.

    chivu/thuram - chivu

    nedved - no competition

rud van - goals, goals, goals

yeah toldos performance against valencia, was probably one of the best europe has seen. that could give him that award, but buffon was more consistent in his work, and that is also a big factor. i dont understand why shevchenko is on the list, but not inzaghi. RVN is better than both, but why would they choose sheva or inzaghi, who scored more and was more consistent? he even got milan to finals, scored one, or should i say two (JDT stole one of his goals). so yeah , i think inzaghi should have been on that list.

I am personally happy that Inzaghi is not on that list. Don't ask why.

But if you are going to nominate Inzaghi might as well just give RVN the award one time.

I think we have 3 awards in the bag:

Buffon for his fantastic performances all year long

Thuram also for his whole season, especially against Barcelona and Real Madrid

and Nedved, for all his hard work, fantastic form, assists and goals, especially against Barcelona and Real Madrid.
