that was a key hint there.

it looks like the biggest clubs wanted to get rid of uefa no matter what and they took the initiative. in 10 years, it might not be just an elite club for the most wealthy, it simply could replace uefa as the organization managing international club competitions.

And why shouldn’t the biggest clubs and revenue drivers in the game want to organize how the game is run and managed... rather than having to put up with some shadowy cabal of corruption in charge that seems to have fantasies of styling themselves as some sort of football “Illuminati” lol

These things have certainly been taken into consideration by the ESL people, but has there already been a word about:

1. If UEFA and FIFA are against this, as well as the domestic associations, who's gonna referee the ESL matches? Aren't those referees employed by these same associations?
2. Can the ESL teams simply copy FIFA rules of the game? Will FIFA allow it and can it stop them at all from using the same rules? Or maybe this will lead to some big changes in the rules of the game?

There are many similar questions. I am certain the ESL organizers have all the answers, just as I'm sure that we will see some changes in the game itself. Perhaps not immediately, but in the very near future.

Well, Perez hinted that the matches might get shorter to be more attractive to the younger generation, although i dont see how 1 hour and 45 minites is a long time to watch ypur favourite play...

There are many local leagues that follow FIFA rules, but are not part of their national FA's and thus do not fall under FIFA's control. Furthermore FIFA would have to demonstrate that they have conceived the notion of football or at the very least have compensated whoever did come up with it. Unfortunately for FIFA football has evolved over centuries and it is not owned by anyone.

FIFA will not make this argument imo.

John Oliver is an activist, not journalist. If there are problems in FIFA/UEFA I would think a massive club, never mind most of them would have the power to voice those issues. But they became fat cats under the yoke of UEFA slavery and stood mute. US capital has been trying to kill FIFA or buy it wholesale for a long time. This has to be the final push.

There is a UEFA Congress underway this morning and this is what Infantino had to say:

"At FIFA, we can only strongly disapprove the creation of a Super League which is a closed shop, which is a breakaway from the current institutions, from the leagues, from the associations, from UEFA, and from FIFA."

"There is a lot to throw away for maybe a short-term financial gain of some. People need to think very carefully. They need to reflect and they need to assume responsibility."

"If some elect to go their own way, then they must live with the consequences of their choice. They are responsible for their choice. Concretely, this means either you are in or you are out. You cannot be half in or half out."
