Jack or anyone else, I've never tried a single malt whisky before. What do you think I should start with to get an idea of how it is?
I'd go for a 10 year old Macallan.

I'm guessing they don't come in any variants? Like different flavour and such? The only difference being the age?
The type of cask they have been distilled in is the main difference other than age when it comes to flavour.

Maybe. I haven't had a Glenfiddich for a while, so I cannae mind.

I would definitely go for a Speyside malt to start with, though.

I'm meant to be heading deep into whisky country on Sunday when I go to Granton-on-Spey.

More distilleries than you can shake a stick at out that way.

A single malt is made entirely by distillations from a single producer, a blend is made by mixing distillations from multiple producers.

Chivas for example is a blend of several differently aged distillations.

Cylnelish is a single malt.
