Especially the Catholic one apparently. One of the key foundations of the Christian belief (and in particular the catholic version) is that you in fact have to be a believer to go to heaven. If you can't even understand your own religion, you're a goddamn moron.

Actually, that's the whole point. Theology is not logical, it's a whole bunch of mental gymnastics to produce something out of nothing.

In a sense yes, but the Catholic Church has developed a huge doctrine and has claimed time and time again that you can only go to heaven if you're a believer. For one of its churches to say that dogs can go to heaven too is an outrage actually. Probably stems from wanting to be goodie goodies and making everyone happy.
