i have an ageing lenovo thinkpad yoga s1 notebook. its cooling was running terrible lately, the fan switched to full throttle after minimal usage, and temperatures were also too high (easily hit 90 degrees celsius while browsing). i thought the cooling system could use some cleaning and maybe some new thermal paste, and now it's running cool and relatively silent for an hour. temp never reached 70 degrees. great improvement with an effort of half an hour.

I let it work all evening and still 91% blocked. I turned it off, once, twice, I had a black screen saying "Undoing changes made to your computer". 15 minutes after it restarted normally.
This is a Windows 10 update, version 1909. Installation failed - 0xc1900101.
I read on the internet that many had the same problem. Next time I will download directly from the windows site, no more automatic updates.
cmd and run commands:
sc config wuauserv start=auto sc
sc config wuauserv start=auto
sc config bits start=auto
sc config cryptsvc start=auto
sc config trustedinstaller start=auto
config bits start=auto
if that didn't work then again go to cmd(run as administrator) and type:
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptsvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren c /windows/softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.old
ren c windows system32 catroot2 catroot2.old
net startcryptsvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
after doing this steps go right click on power shell and run as administrator and run tis command:
wuauclt.exe\updatenow
hope this can be help you.

For the RAM, for that small of a difference, 3600 is fine. As for the CPU, I'd say that the benefits will only be noticeable when there's no framerate cap like 60 fps and every bit of CPU power will help get more frames. I say it's not necessary to get the 3600X, but if you don't mind spending the extra $25 rather than spending that on another part, then go for it. I'll surely say that the CPU cooler on the X is better than the 3600, so yea.

I think it's unlikely that you'll have so many games installed on the hard disk at the same time to fill up that drive. :D But yea, I merely gave suggestions. But I think that with next gen consoles using SSD's too, I see the future of gaming being more optimized for SSDs, so you might start seeing the load times increase, or worse, texture pop-ins while playing a game cos texture data didn't get accessed and transferred fast enough. :D

6 GB VRAM is sufficient for 1080p gaming. You can easily max out your settings without running out of it. The 5700XT is mostly meant for gaming at 1440p resolution, so there's no point in getting it if you're only gaming at 1080p. That's like buying a Ferrari only to drive it at 60 mph. You might as well have got a Volvo. :D

Trust me, playing on a 144 Hz monitor is a HUGE game changer. Once you experience high-refresh rate/framerate gaming, you wouldn't be able to go back to 60 Hz and all console gaming will seem piss poor. I say, take the $130 that you save on the 5700XT and get a 144 Hz 1080p monitor. It's a MUCH better use of your money. Cos it absolutely makes NO sense to pair a 5700XT with a 1080p 60 Hz monitor. :D

For case fans, I think one intake fan up front and one exhaust fan at the back is a must. You need to have fresh air flowing in. I say yes, put 2 more fans up front and put the one that came with the case in the back. If you can't get 2 then minimum 1 up front. More airflow = lower speed of CPU & GPU fans = quieter system + better performance. :)

Most of Intel's current CPUs are based on an older architecture, which means it draws more power and produces more heat leading you to spend more on cooling the CPU. Not to mention that Intel CPUs and related motherboards are generally more expensive than AMD, reducing their value for money. But Intel CPUs are generally faster (though not by much), especially if you plan to overclock it. AMD's Ryzen CPUs are generally much more efficient due to much better architecture, so much more power efficient and provide more cores+threads than Intel for the same money. They're also slightly better for productivity work. I say that unless you REALLY want the fastest processor on the market and don't mind paying a huge premium for it, AMD CPUs are the way to do. The Ryzen 5 3600 or 3600X are great value for money CPUs for gaming. You can go for the 8 core-16 thread Ryzen 3700 or 3800 if you're gonna be using it for heavy CPU workloads and time is essential.
im not expert of hardware but with my limitation exprience i always go for AMD coz AMD is obviously much better price for Performance wise, its still impressive how intel manages to keep up on their dusty 14nm node. Intel managed to push 14nm performance this far to combat AMD, yet made me wonder why the heck it took them so long for 6 core to become mainstream. So in conclusion, yay competition! Push the absolute limit for the lowest price!

i told you im not expert of hardware but if we want to compare same year performance, then lets wait for Ryzen 5 3600XT.
note: i have AMD A8-7410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics and its a lenovo laptop . still can work on my work project smoothly(network and server).

While playing FM the screen just went white and had to restart my PC. No picture on restart, moved the cable to integrated GPU and immediately got picture. AMD GPU not recognized in Device Manager or BIOS, fans are spinning on it though. Probably dead GPU right?

My integrated gpu is Intel HD 4600, very outdated. Can I play FM on it or is the integrated one gonna blow up too?

may be Cache files have become corrupted and deleting them will fix the issue.
you can also change to software mode and check if it works.

Could you please tell me how to do both of those things?

Also, what about this part?
if you are running win 7 on your pc go to
C:\Users\<User Name>\App Data\Roaming
Once you can see inside those folders delete the Sports Interactive Folder.
If you can’t see those folders you will have to make “Hidden” files viewable.
or go to 'Organize'->'Folder and Search Options'->'View'-> and select 'Show hidden files and folders'.

for Fixing Graphics Card Not Detected:
win + R and type : msconfig
1399-08-24 22_00_14-Run.jpg

and choice : normal startup

gpu.jpg

and then restart your pc.

'm not familiar with that model which many laptops use their integrated graphics to output video and use the graphics card for rendering.
If yours only uses the GPU as render and output then there is no way to get around that without replacing the GPU which wouldn't be worth it on a laptop that old.

Thank you.

It is not a laptop, it is a PC. I have a intel i7-4770 3.40 Ghz with it's own integrated GPU. Here's a SS of the specs. I am planning to buy a new PC anyway soon, but I need it for work. If playing FM on this will fry the integrated GPU and leave me with anything then I won't be able to play, that's why I'm asking.

did you try the method i mentioned previous post?
or did you try force quit FM, the close and quit Steam, reload Steam and load FM up?
this case can be happen for many reasons. Java Runtime or even Java SDK that needed to install the last version.

I didn't because it was not an FM issue. I'm pretty sure my GPU is dead. There is no signal on other monitors, it does not exist in BIOS or Device Manager and the fans are spinning like crazy.

It happened to me a few times a month or two ago too where it would be like my monitor just lost signal and I fixed it for a while with tightening the screws on VGA plugs, but today it was definite it seems.

So, I cannot believe this.

One of my new colleagues at work had a PC shop before and we were talking a little bit and I told him about the GPU that died. He said I should put it in an oven for a few minutes and then try again. I laughed it off as it seemed an obvious joke.

He wasn't joking.

I took it apart, put it in the oven, 250 C for 2-3 minutes let it cool, cleaned it up a bit with kitchen paper, put it back in, AND IT FUCKING WORKS

I'm baffled, who knows how long it'll work, but man....so happy

People did this years ago but I'm surprised it still works as well. It used to be half that heat for longer.

Basically what you are doing is melting and re-forming the solder once it cools. So you had a broken connection somewhere. How long it will last for, could be a week or years.

I'm sure plenty of other people have blown up or killed their cards doing this but it's a good shot to nothing. For anyone who has a heat gun I'd recommend trying that first - in fact it is a useful piece of kit to have in general.

Friend told me to leave it for 5 minutes on 250, but after 2-3 minutes started to smell and I was afraid something's gonna start blowing up inside and I'll ruin my oven lmao. Not even sure it got to a melting point anywhere

Maybe it was the fact I took it apart and cleaned it too, have no idea.

Could well be that. Rosin core solder melts before 250 but I'm not sure it would do it in a few minutes.

If it 'dies' again try about 150C for 20 mins, just checking the smell and look. Depending on your card you might be able to see what happens to the solder. I'd also put a bit of foil over anything that seems more sensitive.

If you think about it, most cards are ok up to about 100C max and then the warranty is void. Most times these faults are caused by overheating wear and tear.

These were among the lowest benchmark scores for the 5600X I've seen, yet it still did really well. Interesting.
