Yeah, that's totally reasonable. Makes total sense.

I don't know if I'll get my job once corona finishes but I hope I do. My PC needs a refreshment badly, it's really old and quite bad. Can't afford much and I doubt I'll buy a new PC at this point so looking at one piece as a best buy I'm looking into RX 580 to replace my GPU. But I literally need to replace everything lol.

My current computer is 12 years old, so it was overdue. It's mainly for my son for when he will use it for educational programs, but I also wanted to future proof it as much as possible.

Like that GPU and processor weren't expensive :D

Most of i7 and 1080s specs have 16gb at this point, which is rather "outdated", that's why I said it. Either way you're ending up with a great PC, no doubt about it. Btw if you can pick I'd recommend Noctua ventilators (coolers?), they are incredible imo.
well I had 16gb but then Ram memory was so low 2-3months ago that I gifted my G.Skill Trident Z 2x8gb to my mom and got my self the 32gb version for what? 130euro or something.
Before rams goes up again I said why not. And seeing how corona hit everything I did the right thing XD

honestly man which "edu program" need something more recent than your 12years old pc?
If you can't spend much I'd rather pick a Sata III ssd and let it be.

Else everything's depend on your budget. Now isn't really the moment to buy as price for hardware is shit.
If I were you I'd look into used parts market. Many people lost their jobs and need money you could find some nice deals (I know it's not cool but that's the harsh truth)

Monitor Dell S2716DG
how do you find the tn panel?

i went for an aoc u2777pqu, ips looks a lot better for occasional photo editing, and i'm not bothered by relatively slow response times. also, gaming ips monitors came a long way lately, tn's gonna die if it continues like this.

well actually really good I bought it for gaming not for video editing, photography or anything related.
Also I'm not one who scream if the colors aren't perfect.
Anyway It's a monitor that I'll Keep as long as it last!
Even with next generation my aim is to have at least 144-150fps on any game.
There is really no point going for 4k monitors rightnow I'd rather have more fps for a more fluid experience.

Also the price makes me wanna keep it and use it as much as I can.

Dunno do IPS monitors already lowered the latence to 1ms?
But anyway I bought it 3-4years ago for 552euro and for me it's perfect with 27 inches, 144hz, g-sync, 1ms and 2k resolution.
Also love Dell Design and flexibility.

Yours sadly miss g-sync but more frameless than mine which has 1cm of black borders.
But in the end I'm not picky on monitors colors or out of factory calibration and stuff like that

i get your point about fps. gaming experience over resolution any day if that's the point.

yes, the latest ips gaming monitors have 1 ms latency. some examples: https://geizhals.at/?cat=monlcd19wide&xf=11939_27~11949_2~11955_IPS

as for my screen, since i'm not doing any gaming, i don't mind missing g-sync or freesync. if i wanted some gaming features, i went for a dedicated vga instead of an integrated one, and a smaller, faster monitor. 4k makes the difference in photo editing, it's brilliant.

yeah didn't mean it wasn't good just not for what I do :D

my next monitor I'd like it bigger like those curved 34'' asus monitors already decided on that
Maybe in the near future new graphics card will be able to hold up the fps with biggers screens.

Because these games' target demographic isn't old enough to use a PC
Lol nah. I mean yes Fortnite is full of kiddies and it's disgusting but the pro scene at the beginning was full of adults but now kids on controllers have caught up and are destroying the OGs on KB&M.

Warzone is a mixed bag like every other game.

So, speaking of Memory.

I get an e-mail today taht because of all the purchases I made with Dell, I have 127.00 in Dell Rewards.

Cool. Then I see that 16GB - 2RX8 DDR4 UDIMM 2666MHz

of Memory (the same that I built mine with) is 60.00 off at 129.99, with Free shipping.

So, I basically paid 4.00 for an additional 16GB of RAM, and it will be here on Friday

:lol2: ok, now we're talking. You're set for another 10 years without buying anything else.

I like your optimism .
Depending on what he is using the PC for, sixteen gigs is good for five years. If you're working with multiple applications simultaneously, right now that's the minimum.
