Domenech trusts Serie A stars Thursday 16 August, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Raymond Domenech has picked six Serie A players in his France squad to face Italy in the crucial September 8 Euro 2008 qualifier.

Fiorentina 'keeper Sebastian Frey and Roma’s Philippe Mexes join Juve trio David Trezeguet, Jean-Alain Boumsong and Jonathan Zebina and Inter’s Patrick Vieira.

Trezeguet is selected despite a long-standing rift between the ex-Monaco striker and Domenech and his criticism of recent comments by his boss.

Les Blues lead the Azzurri by two points in Group B, but as it stands both sides will secure automatic qualification.

However, Italy only lead third-placed Scotland by a single point and will also be highly motivated by the intense rivalry between the two sides which intensified after last summer’s World Cup Final.

In recent weeks the rivalry has become more bitter after Domenech fanned the flames by accusing the Italian Under-21 side of match-fixing and alleging that there were 'agreements’ at work in Serie A.

Roberto Donadoni’s Azzurri side will be cheered on by a capacity San Siro crowd as tickets have now sold out.

France squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Frey (Fiorentina), Landreau (PSG), Rame (Bordeaux), Richert (Sochaux)
Defenders: Abidal (Barcelona), Boumsong (Juventus), Clerc (Lyon), Evra (Manchester United), Gallas (Arsenal), Givet (Marseille), Mexes (Roma), Reveillere (Lyon), Sagna (Arsenal), Squillaci (Lyon), Thuram (Barcelona), Zebina (Juventus)
Midfielders: Diaby (Arsenal), A Diarra (Bordeaux), L Diarra (Chelsea), Makelele (Chelsea), Malouda (Chelsea), Mavuba (Villarreal), Nasri (Marseille), Ribery (Bayern Munich), Rothen (PSG), Toulalan (Lyon), Vieira (Inter)
Strikers: Anelka (Bolton), Benzema (Lyon), Briand (Rennes), Cisse (Marseille), Henry (Barcelona), Piquionne (Monaco), Trezeguet (Juventus)

I like him to stay. After those encouraging comments & will to stay

He's only been here one season. And from last season I have only seen him improving...

I say keep it
If we don't sign another CB, we should keep him as backup, not good enough as starter, but as backup, I don't mind keeping him.
I dont mind keeping him either his heart is in it let him stay if we dont sign another defender.
i want him to stay! i have a soft corner for him!

:toast:

Forza Boumsong:D.

He fully knows he's nothing more than a back-up at Juve right now. If he really is that determined to improve his game by working hard each training session just for the hope of breaking into our first team then by all means... I welcome the work-ethic and example he sets to others.

He might not be the best player on the pitch, but I can't fault him for his committment. As long as he's under no illusions that his game needs to improve before he gets any serious game minutes.

Shocking...Trezeguet is in the squad. He was playing for a Serie B team and scored only 16 goals. I have to remove him immediately.

I almost spat water on my monitor when I read that Boumsong was called up for France... even Zebina is a stretch, but understandable... are they that hard up for defenders??

Just remeber who their coach is.

There is no logic behind any decisions because France have plenty good defenders.

For a guy who has been bitching about the Italian NT lately, he's sure picking Frenchies with experience in Italian clubs who, at least in a couple cases, aren't exactly considered Frances' finest...

its a way of saying sorry i guess..

"Let me pick, whom I consider rejects, mind you, from the Italian League Serie A AND B, and maybe they'll like me again...for who I am..a World Cup finalist-loser"

This is true... Domenech is a total nutbar... and I wonder if he did pick a bunch of second tier quality players with Serie A experience (Trez notwithstanding) with the hopes of being able to play an Italian style against Italy and somehow do it better with inferior players??

Who knows, but that's probably it (Italian experience). I'm just glad Trez is in the line-up. The national team means a lot to him but Domenech has stripped that pride from him for no reason for a while now.

Lets hope Trez plays well and makes that loser coach blush some more!
