I better see a top center prospect next Monday with us on trade deadline with our course the Captain going the other way.

Thomas, Steel, Jankowski...I don't care.

and picks, I want a 1st round pick.

I'll take anything for Plekanec. A 2nd would be a miracle.

I'd send Price to Arizona but that won't happen. Same with Weber to Babcock.

Ha.

That is all I can say. No offense. And your last scenario won't happen because they just shut Weber down for the year.

Great trade. Really changed the culture of the club, that deal.

I wonder if Drouin has as many points as Sergachev yet.

I see MikeM here...
The only way they are going to get young players and/or draft picks is if they take on a bad contract or two. They have the cap space to do that. . THis team has done an absolutely pitiful job of developing their young talent over the last 5 years. It is pitiful.

Look at the Bruins and all of the young talent they have on the team, especially in defense. It is simply gross, to be honest

Look at what the Penguins have managed to do with undrafted free agents and lousy draft picks.

Montreal's scouting and talent development has just been awful.

It's not the scouting that is the problem. It is the development of those players, and an incompetent GM.

Mikhail Sergachev is THE prime example of this. 19 years old. Doesn't turn 20 until the end of June

But hey, let's demote Nikita Scherbak because ANDREW FUCKING SHAW is eligible to come off of the injured reserve list.

That is just fucking beautiful. This management in a nutshell.

yep,

and I've never been a fan of Lefebvre in the AHL. Ducharme[coach] and Bouchard[GM] who won gold with Canada Jr are available.

as for the most important thing, the NHL I see Julien Brisebois coming over form Tampa. He should now but it's already too late. Not sure if we want Marc doing that rebuild.

The guy started well/ok and blew it. With all those supposed experts he hired: Dudley, Lapointe, Mellanby.......

Must be a country club and just friends who all agree with each other.

In with the new blood.

I think they told Scherbak he'll be back next week because the roster # will be unlimited. They didn't want to lose the other Shaw or Carr on waivers.

Then sideline Danault until the end of the season then. It's really that simple. If Scherbak is going to have a chance to be a part of this team, then he needs to play.

The management managed to waste the prime of Carey Price. Turns 31 this year. Sad they couldn't manage to build a better contender around a franchise goaltender.

Here's my theory on this. And @Mark, if it offends, you, I am sorry.

This team would rather lose with French Canadians than win with Americans, Russians, Czechs, and Western Canadians/Torontonians.

I'm not offended at all. We must have the best people for all roles. Coaching, players...

If I see two players of equal talent[does that even exist]...but let's say it does...I'd go for the guy from here. I think the home town factor can help in MTL.

I fully understand that. They have a fanbase that they need to appease. However, I have seen it many times were trades were made for Francophones at the expense of giving away talent that has turned out to be a lopsided deal.

Denis Savard, anyone?

Montreal looked like they were getting the superior player in Savard, he was fantastic through the 80s, and only 1 year older than Chelios. But Savard deteriorated so quickly. Two decent seasons for the Habs, and then was basically a passenger on the cup run.

Chelios, meanwhile, played another 15 seasons at top level.

Savard was already on the decline when they made the move for him. Chelios was younger, and even though had a down year the season prior to the trade, was nothing short of phoenomenal the 3 seasons prior to that for Montreal.

He's only 11 months younger. I don't think it's really fair to say Savard had begun declining. He was 29, which is considered prime for a hockey player. He was 2 seasons removed from 131 point season, and only injuries stopped him from 100+ points in 88-89 (82 points in 58) and 89-90 (80 points in 60). He was also fantastic for the Blackhawks in the playoffs those 2 seasons, leading them to conference finals both years, with 19 points in 16 and 22 points in 20.

I don't really see anyone predicting in 1989-90, especially after the playoffs, that he would be almost useless by 1992-93.

All the same, definitely a terrible trade in hindsight. Chelios could have anchored that defensive line for another 15+ years.

Chelios was traded for off ice issues. One of them was banging the Prez's wife. Another for hitting a tree with his car.
Still, could have done a better deal.
