Pittsburgh trades Joe Morrow and 5th round pick for Brendan Morrow and a 3rd round pick.

Could be a solid play. Gives us a potential line of Morrow - Malkin - Neal.

Got to keep our two top D prospects in Despres and Maata.

- - - Updated - - -

Now we get to sit back an watch a mad dash to overpay for big Jerome.

My guess is Boston makes the play.

Talk around these parts is that the Bruins are trying to get Iginla, and dangling Lucic and a pick as trade bait. Is Iginla really that much of an upgrade over Lucic? I know that Lucic has been uderperforming, but he's at least 10 years younger than Iginla
Wow, first time that I've heard this rumour, you're scaring me here, Serge. I definitely would not do a straight up deal; it sucks that Lucic is struggling, and he's on a pretty bloated contract, but he's an extremely important member of the B's, very important physical element, great for the locker room, fan favourite (although they're frustrated right now).

Not incredibly surprised he's struggling, didn't play during the lockout, really think he just needs a bit of time to snap out of it. Might not happen until next year, who knows. They've shifted him to a line with Peverley in practice, trying to get both of those guys going. They eat a fair chunk of cap space, really need more production from them, specifically goals.

Great deal, buddy. Love Morrow, he's such a quality character. Was a member of our Olympic team in 2010, although you may just remember that team :p

I think he's going to be a solid add to that second line, nice grit there, too. Will help come postseason, no doubt about it.

As for the Bruins and Jerome, I hope the B's don't give up anything too significant to nab him. I've always admired Iggy's game a lot, but with some of the other injuries right now, I'm not sure this is the time to shake up the core for a rental. Definitely some holes, some instability in the B's lineup right now, I'm interested to see what Chiarelli will do.

Your GM loves to make retarded trades before the deadline. The next two week should be fun.
This put a scare in me. He's been mind blowing for us thus far.

Anyways, 6 pts in 3 games, playoffs looking like a possibility again. It really helped getting Laich back

I heard that Joe Morrow is a really good prospect, but I suppose Pens are pretty stacked in the rookie defenceman department. There is also Derrick Pouliot, who has super-offensive upside.

It wouldn't surprise me if Calgary want a pick, a roster player, and a prospect. I guess we'll see.

They are. I was reading an article that say we have 5 or 6 good prospects in defense. The two I've heard the most about are Simon Despres (currently with the Pens) and Oli Maata.

and now you get Douglas Murray for 2 2nd round pics.

Short term great but with the Morrow deal and this one you can suffer long term but who cares. :D

PIT/BOS vs CHI/ANA final.

I don't think it hurts us too bad in the long term. We have some solid prospects and the ability to acquire more picks in the next couple of seasons.

They definitely want to make a run in the playoffs and our defense isn't sturdy. So it's natural that Shero wants to fix that.

It's nice we made our moves so early. Now we get to sit back and watch.

If he's not planning on re-signing it only makes sense to try and trade to a competitive team for picks and prospects. Though Washington has made some amazingly bad deadline day trades in the past few seasons. I remember the year they acquired no less than six players only to go out in the 1st round.

yeah that's true and those 2nd round picks you can live without them since your first 2 lines are signed long term. Interested to see how Morrow and Murray do.

in other news, Semin 5 years, 35m. :shifty:

Morrow won't break up the Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis line.

He'll most likely play on the 2nd or 3rd, probably both at times. Depending on the situation.

Laich is definitely a hugely important player for your team; all three phases of the game, great locker room guy, too.

Almost back to .500. Almost like Oates isn't totally clueless.

Almost like Ovechkin and Backstrom are producing again.

Goalies have been a bit better as well, right?

:p

Oh, c'mon, Iginla is dead material, no reason to sign him
Iggy could definitely, definitely help a team down the stretch, RUS. Big time. Very smart, outstanding character, very well rounded player, tons of big game experience, lots of grit for the postseason, dying for a Cup. He can definitely still light it up, especially if he's playing with a true #1 centre. I just don't want the B's to blow up the nucleus for a rental, but Iggy in a Bruins jersey could be very interesting.

What I've read is roster player, a #1 pick, and a solid prospect. I would say fuck that, but it depends on who they expect back. The B's need to make some changes, but with some of the injuries, it just seems like there are too many holes in the B's lineup right now. Some guys will be coming back shortly, and Soderberg is an intriguing player who's supposed to be joining the club once the Swedish Elite playoffs are over. Hard to say what type of impact he can have though, wouldn't expect too much.

If I'm being honest, I would say that this team is not an Iginla away from a cup. A few of our guys really need a kick in the pants, feels like they got fat on their new contracts (lockout obviously didn't help guys like Lucic, who didn't play abroad).
