I haven't seen Maxwell play at all Sergio - decreased production is not a great sign - but I haven't seen the guy play, I just have no idea what he has to offer (in terms of skillset, or situational strengths).

Beyond that, all I will say (and what you certainly know) is that obviously stats don't always tell the story. Has he been shifted between positions, who has he played with in those 3 years (linemates), did he miss time with injury (if so, what type of injuries were they), have the coaches asked him to significantly adjust his role, etc., etc.

Anyway, I'm sure he probably is in decline, and, like I said, the coaches/scouts in the organization seem to be down on him for one reason or another.

A change of scenery might be the best thing for everyone involved. I still like this trade for Atlanta; they clear salary, move a surplus dman, and a minor leaguer in exchange for a prospect who's still only 22, and a 4th rnd pick. It's a good deal for them.

You never know when, or if these guys will put it all together, but from ATL's perspective, 40 points in 47 games isn't the worst place to start. I'm sure he pretty much replaces Dawes production in the AHL at the very least (probably for less money), and Sopel for a 4th seems decent enough for a 34 year old who's out of contract after this season (I think), and has been a healthy scratch lately.

Rollie, I'm not going to argue with you about a 2nd round pick who has regressed over the last three seasons. Honestly, I'm not. The reason why I don't like the trade is not because of who they gave up (A center who has fallen on the orginizational depth chart), its because this move has minimal impact on the Canadiens. He's a band aid to a defensive corps that has been rocked by injuries. They needed another stay at home defenseman. You say that it's a salary dump for Atlanta, and that's fine, but Sopel is a free agent at the end of this year as well, and they still have enough cap space to make another deal.

It really speaks volumes about Maxwell when a 5'7" 170lb undrafted free agent is now playing regularly for the Habs, and has 14 points in 29 career NHL games., compared to Maxwell, when he had 0 points in 20 games.

Good, because I'm not trying to 'argue' with you, buddy. Just chattin' you up. :D

Trust me, I know why you don't like this deal. I know you boys are dying for a significant deal.

I was just saying that I like the deal for ATL. It's a solid minor transaction - there's potential upside, and 4th round picks have value.

I was also just making a simple, general point that young players often find success with a new environment. .

As for stats like he had '0 points in 20 games', without knowing the player at all, that type of stat just has way too many variables for me.

As a loose example: Brad Marchand is now 22, and last year he had 1 point in 20 NHL games (granted his stats in the AHL were very solid). I always liked the player's gritty game, but for awhile it was hard to determine exactly how his development would play out. I now envision him being a major piece of this team (moving forward), a huge boost to our previously lacking top 6 forward (wing) talent.

Anyway, I'm sorry buddy, I have a tendency to transcribe my thought process in a little too much detail - as you can see. I'm truly not trying to needle you here, and we can absolutely let this go... :D

What a massive win for the B's last night... 4/4 from the road trip, hopefully they can keep it going tonight against the Oil.

I'm loving Lucic and Krejci's chemistry. Anyone catch the GW? The goal itself is a bit lucky, but check out Krejci's rush to begin the play, at approx 46 seconds... just beautiful.
Goal and two assists for the kid on the night, huge homecoming for Lucic. This young lad is turning into quite the player; he's going to be an absolute force in a few years.

so we didn't get tougher huh? :sigh: Neil, Konopka...

White didn't practice. Sent down? Trade? :boh:

EDIT: sent down.
I was really surprised your team didn't pull the trigger on a bigger piece.

I heard that the Isles were asking for a 2nd round pick for Konopka. That's waaay too steep. I also heard that Neal really didn't want to move... Ottawa also moved enough players as it was (and got some decent picks in return).

Here's the deadline summary.

Arnott is the Caps' new 2nd line center. :howler:
Hopefully Arnott can spark Semin for the stretch run. It's getting tight at the top of my cash-money pool, and I could really use that production. The guy has something like 4 goals since the 28th of November...

Of course, I'm also hoping that during round 1 the entire Caps team comes down with the Norwalk virus, and they lose in 4.
