Well, generally referees do intervene if a guy truly doesn't want to fight. If that individual drops his gloves though, that's usually a pretty decent indicator that he's at least a semi-willing participant - at that point, generally speaking, I don't want to see referees awkwardly trying to hog tie two guys throwing bombs - it's easy for players to get hurt in those situation.

I didn't see any sucker punches; I saw some players who were initially hesitant, and then did what they felt they had to in a ridiculously intense matchup between historic rivals. Even Krejci fought... which was absolutely stupid. 2 fights in his career, and they're both this year against Montreal... Les Habitants get David all fired up!

I loved the fighting in the Boston Vs Montreal game. It was very old school, and generally each situation happened after someone got a little too wound up and stepped over the line (like Marchand's hit on Wisniewski, etc.). The guys were just jacked up.

You also have a couple of young players - Subban, and Pacioretty - who are both going to be awesome, but frankly, they have the look of 'habitual line steppers' (to borrow from Charlie Murphy). They both like to talk, and they're playing with an edge, and that type of behavior gets one noticed, so to speak. If they keep it up, Montreal may need to look at adding a little more toughness. You don't want your skill guys always answering the bell in those situations.

Mark, give me some Habs rumours please.

Kostitsyn being traded for who?
mah! Kostitsyn, Weber and even Halpern + prospects not including Leblanc, Tinordi could go. I like Kristo but they may trade him if we get something decent in return.

Rumoured players to join us: Penner, Umberger, Kaberle(don't think so), Phillips, Kovalev(noooooo), Setoguchi(don't believe that), Neil(yes please), Winchester, Crombeen, Clarksson, Arnott, Boll, Peckham, Konopka...

Yes, I heard a Kostitsyn-Setoguchi swap. Sign me up.

But San Jose's probably still weary of us after we took Gorges + Pacioretty for Rivet lol.

Forsberg. What a player!

Zuccarello the Nord-Italien? :D

Didn't see him on the scoresheet lately. Maybe missed it but was playing well last month.

Habs scouts and assistant GM in Nashville. Franson and Dumont? :boh:

Twice, my man. They got a taste for it, so your boys came back for more. 6 - 1 at home is the definition of rape ... I actually thought that the outcome of today's game could have been a little different - that Marchand giveaway to Bertuzzi is about as big a gift as one can get. The 2nd Detroit goal (Datsyuk I believe) where our defenceman ran into Timmy was also a little embarassing. :D

Ultimately though, Detroit was the much better team in both games, and has everything they need to make a cup run. Very nice puck control, exceptional movement off the puck... the players are so in tune, so familiar with each other. It's definitely a fun team to watch.

This is what happens with amazing ownership and management; you go get amazing players, and then you establish continuity. Good stuff by Detroit, really good.
I know Boston can play better than that. Some of the matchups they had during the game were pretty poor, plus your main guys looked out of sorts. I actually thought we'd be poor considering we don't seem to play well against Philly and Boston during the regular season.

Good win tonight, we look like we're back on track and ready to wreck havoc. All the best to the eternal captain and his team.

    :donedeal:

Colborne, Boston's 1st in 2011 and a conditional pick for Kaberle the basis of the trade. Trade call still has to be made to close the deal.
That is a lot to give up for Kaberle, but it does give them another puck moving defenseman. I'm wondering if Colborne will develop into the poor man's Joe Thorton like they had envisioned when they drafted him. Good move for Boston though. Is Kaberle a free agent after this year? He can't be. There is no way Boston would give up that much with the chance of him only being a rental
