Maybe so, but he has a long way to go and big shoes to fill if you happen to make the playoffs. Time will tell.

New Jersey appears to be in a lot of trouble. Starting only three lines already seems to be tiring them out.

I think the NHL needs to implement a sort of hard cap/soft cap for injury situations such as this. Hockey being as physical as it is, injuries are more likely to happen there than any other sport with the exeption of football. But at least with football you have 53 man rosters and practice squads.

What they shoudl do, in my opinion, is create a hard cap for any players on your current squad acquired by trades, waivers, free agency, or call ups, and insitute a soft cap for players currently on your squad who were on the roster at the end of last season, and free agents that you re-sign.

Take 75% of those players salaraies that fall into the latter and put them in the soft cap category, and put the rest into the hard cap category.

That way, teams have a fair shake of being able to pick someone up off of waivers or bring up players from their system who are on a 2 way contract with their respective AHL/IHL teams.

    Bahhh. What do I know.

    Your thoughts, Andy?

This is a good idea, Sergio. I'm a fan.

Datsyuk is putting on quite the show tonight.

We are losing 3-0 at home to the Yotes, but Pavs keeps wowing the crowd with stickwork, including using the back of the opposition's net for give-and-goes to beat the defender on two occasions.

Seguin scores his first goal at home tonight, against the Leafs, and the crowd chants 'thank you Kessel'... I love it. Nice night to be a Bruins fan.

Gotta say that Boston is looking very solid to start the season... and Tim Thomas has been lights out.

Keep your eyes on Jordan Caron, boys. This kid is big, very solid (I heard on a Rangers broadcast that he was 2nd behind Chara in the strength testing during training camp - not bad for a 19 y/o) and really positionally sound... smart kid with a great hockey IQ.

You know when a guy is on the first pair penalty kill against the Capitals - in his 4th NHL game - that he 'gets it', so to speak.

Toronto has very, very little secondary scoring (Clarke McArthur is not going to score 100+ goals, or whatever he's on pace for right now). They've had a nice start to the year, and (like I tell my many Toronto supporting friends), they're a bubble team.

But I don't think they'll be anything more than that... good goaltending, a pretty solid defense, but big time lack of secondary scoring. Other than Kes, that top line isn't particularly fearsome either (and Kes takes quite a few nights off). If they pick up a couple of injuries (like Armstrong getting hurt the other night), there's not much depth in this lineup at all.

I really don't understand why Nazem Kadri is still playing for the Marlies. He averaged what, 2 points a game last year in the OHL playoffs? They need scoring, they're not contenders, I really think they should get him into the lineup already.

I will however say that the Leafs are much better than they were last year and they should be a solid team in the not too distant future.

Wow, just wow. The "rabid" fan base? I think he meant "naive". After the 4-0-0 start, everybody started shitting themselves with excitement and most were convinced that this team had what it takes to make it to the playoffs. They've lost 4 out of their last 5 and things have gotten much quieter now. I can only imagine what the papers at home are saying.

As Rollie said, Armstrong is injured (not to mention he's not really a goalscorer) and Clarke MacArthur won't pump in goals all fucking season. Versteeg is not really the big signing he was made out to be by the biased pro-Toronto media and they still don't have a proper centreman. I'm a fan of Bozak, but I don't think he'll bloom anytime soon. My prediction is that Kaberle will once again lead the team in points come April. :howler:

So what now? The Leafs have been collecting defencemen for years now, so "Leaf Nation" has been screaming at Burke to move one of them, namely Kaberle (my favourite Leaf), for a decent player. What most Leaf fans fail to realize is that you can't trade shit for gold and if I were Brian Burke, I'd be hanging on to Kaberle with both hands. Captain PhuckPhace isn't gonna put points up and run the power play like Kaberle does.

It's a real shame they didn't make that Calgary trade a 3-way which would've sent Phaneuf elsewhere for a decent centreman while Phaneuf's value was still substantial. Now it's down the drain. Shit defenceman who's more concerned about hitting than defending. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem if you were fast enough to actually move in and hit the opposition, but he's slow as fuck. Why he's wearing the "C" is beyond me.

I only like Kaberle of the laughs because he loves Juve. :D

btw, you guys saw the goal they gave them the other day. They checked the replay and said it was good. It wasn't.

    anyway,

    OH MY G-AULD!!!

Never been fully sold on Phaneuf. He's always been a goon wannabe who made a name for himself making big hits. Kaberle is definitely the main playmaker of the team and the only blueliner able to move the puck around. The rest are just hitters and utility guys who aren't even that good either, like my man Lebda.

Once they start hitting that Western Conference schedule they are going to get owned. Mark my words on that one (no pun intended).

Man, if they could have stood up for a little longer, Horton would have laid a beat down on Phaneuf in their fight the other night. Horton obviously got the best a weak tilt as it was, and it was bullshit that he got an addition 10 for punching Dion while they were on the ice... Phaneuf was still swinging too.

I'd take Kabs in Boston, but we can't take on the salary right now. Maybe we can get another Leafs 1st rounder for Wheeler ;)

Need to move about 7.5M by sometime in December, if we're going to get Savvy and Sturmy back in the lineup. Hopefully we'll start by waiving Ryder... can't see anybody wanting that 4m salary, even if it is just for this year (although I will say that he's been playing better so far this season). I'd like to see Andrew Ference moved too, if possible - I like the guy, but he's a turnover machine (and is making 2.25M I think).

Cap situation in Boston is actually manageable after this year.

I didn't know that tackling the goalie was legal in hockey... and It was fucking Colton Orr, to boot. Not exactly a lady byng candidate... I really have no fucking clue how they missed that one. One of the worst calls I've ever, ever seen.

Krejci, Seguin, Lucic, Caron... I love seeing our young guns putting the biscuit in the basket. Ottawa were actually the better team for the majority of the first 25 mins or so, but Boston really started to roll after that.

Lucic is skating so much better this year, he's so much faster, so much more pop than he had last season. Those injuries (especially the ankle) really took their toll. Love the chemistry on the top line... whenever Savvy returns, they should definitely leave Krejci with Horts and Luch.

Timmy is absolutely fucking lights out right now... it's crazy.

Tyler Seguin is going to be a force. Kid is looking awesome getting 3rd line minutes with Rex and Ryder... could've had 2 or 3 tonight. I'm definitely a believer.

    Alright, I'm done

I just love Modano on this team. It's like having a true Juventino play for Juventus. He obviously works his ass off for the team.
