I still wouldn't count out Buffalo. If some of their players like Roy and Connolly step up like they should, and Miller continues to be a beast, they can get a couple games back. It's a shame they lost Vanek as he is a major loss for a low-scoring team.
If Boston ends up going through, they will lose to whomever they play in the next round.

Rollercoaster win tonight for the B's. Just a terrible start to the game, most of the players looked lost/half asleep, and they basically gifted Buffalo that first goal; that trend has to stop. In typical B's fashion, they were having an extremely difficult time getting out of their own zone, and the d was very jittery - that's not really all that unexpected, given the rooks/youth back there. Not as typical, they were getting dominated physically for the entire 1st period. To be honest, after the second goal (that Wideman deflected into his own net - again), I really questioned whether this series might turn for the Sabers.
In my opinion, Boston has outplayed Buffalo in every game of this series, as close as the games have been. They have definitely outworked, out chanced, and really taken the body to the Sabers. Ruff did a good job tonight by increasing the size on his first two lines, and the improved physicality was evident early; still, they couldn't sustain that early physical dominance. Anyone who has actually watched this series knows that my team deserves to be up 3-1.
The Sabers were something like 31-0 this year when leading after 2 periods; this series my team has beaten them twice when Buffalo was leading after two. Buffalo has also scored the first goal of every game. Big time character and determination by the Bruins to fight back. Both goalies have been spectacular; it's my opinion that these are the two hottest goalies in the game right now.
As bad as the B's PP has been, they popped 2 tonight. Massive. What a pass by Ryder on that 2OT winner; he was fucking garbage for most of the night, but that was some huge atonement right there. Can't wait for Friday night.
So maybe you think that if Buffalo advances they'll be able to beat Pittsburgh (provided Philly goes through)? Or they'll beat Jersey? I read that last line a couple times, and that's kind of how I've interpreted it.
Whoever wins this series is obviously a serious underdog.
Buffalo isn't a low scoring team, they finished tied for 9th in the league in scoring. They're also missing Jochen Hecht, though.
You know what's a shame? The team that finished 2nd last in the league in scoring is missing their top offensive player (not to mention 2 of their 3 best d men, Seidenberg and Stuart).
I don't know how this series will wind up, and obviously playing the Pens or Caps next round would be daunting, to say the least. I will say that this Bruins team definitely isn't as bad as some people think they are, despite having a very poor, injury ravaged, regular season.
Last year they weren't as good as some obviously thought, this year they're not as bad as some people think. They also have a phenomenal young goaltender in Rask, and as he is proving now (and Miller proved during the olympics and regular season), a hot goaltender can allow a team to seriously exceed expectations. This is a young team that has nothing to lose, and they've been a lot of fun to watch so far this postseason.
Big win for Luongo and the Canucks tonight, as well. That was just a great comeback.

And then when it does not happen, they say they were wrong, but then start the cycle all over again in the off season. Will they ever learn? Probably not. But I suppose a broken clock is right once.

Rask's technical game is superb; he's anything but a flopper. He's a gift from god and the Toronto Maple Leafs. That diving blocker save was some Superman action.
Miller flopped a real nice one with his glove on a second effort as well.
Boston hit the bar in regulation. Miller stopped them on a breakaway. There are a ton of incidents where a game can turn - some ridiculous saves, these things happen. Buffalo got their goals off of a brutal turnover/deflection /missed assignment gift, and then a lucky deflection off a stunned Dennis Wideman. Buffalo did outplay Boston for stretches last night, but the Bruins had more quality scoring chances; Miller probably made 10 ridiculous saves... he was very good.
They also outshot and outplayed the Sabers in game one, and lost that game. They hit 2 posts in that game. People who have watched this series, and not just the last game, would tell you that Boston has been the better team over the course of four games. Which is why the Bruins are deserving of the series lead.

I said that I didn't think they would win this first round series, and that I thought if they made it past the first round it would be a short 2nd series. This is only Boston's 3rd consecutive post season, after some pretty bad years; there hasn't been a whole lot of Bruins fluffing in the national media this decade.

I only mentioned the injury issue for Boston because you were talking about the Sabers being hard done by.
Congratulations, Detroit has had continuity with ridiculously good upper management. Until recently, Boston has had nothing that even approximates good management of an NHL hockey club. I love how Detroit magically got brought into this discussion; yes, your team is better than the Bruins... for now.
