Wow. Kovy certainly wasn't cheap before, and this has gotta sting a bit:

I may be naive, but I wasn't expecting such a strong response to violating a pretty vague cap rule. Teams will certainly get the message...

Meh. In the end, it's the Devils... I'm sure nobody around here will complain.
They would complain if it were the Bruins, Capitals, Canadiens, or Red Wings.

That's a very harsh punishment for a rule that has already been circumvented with several other contracts.

But that's the NHL for you. 1 step forward, 3 steps back.

Absolutely buddy, I would be going apeshit if they had taken a measure like this against Boston. I just know that people around here dislike the Devils... some strongly.

I think that taking away a 3rd round pick would have been a very strong message in itself. My opinion is that they did go quite a bit beyond those other similar contracts, but the rule is vague at best, and this is harsh.

Which contracts were you thinking of in particular, Aaron?

I'm interested in where people think the line should be drawn on this.

Any thoughts lads, post em up.
Hossa primarily.

Then there are others like Savard, Zetterburg, and Holmstrom that are kind of in a gray area, but don't have them playing into their 50s.

You're thinking about Franzen who has an 11 year contract. Homer is a free agent in 2012.
