Or blow everything up for Anthony Davis, and hope to sign Kyrie/Klay/whoever in free agency this summer, to make a big 3.

Hard to say which is the better option. All these injuries are making it really hard to determine what this team's potential is, especially if we added just the one star in summer free agency (SG like Klay or Butler would be awesome, and of course so would KD or Kawhi).

Here's the thing. Waiting until July doesn't make it any easier for Boston to compete with LA for Davis. Why? Because the Lakers would have the ability to add a player who is far superior than either Hayward or Horford through free agency AND add AD. It would not just be Lebron and Davis. Yes they would lose the expiring contracts of Rondo and KCP, but they could trade Ball, Ingram, Kuzma and Zubac along with picks, and the salaries could come close enough to match.

Now, what free agent in the summer would want to ball with Lebron and AD on the same team.

The Lakers are primed to make a big move or two. Whether it is now and in July, or both in July. They have the salary flexibility, young assets and picks to make it work.

Now whether it does work or not is another matter entirely different.

League and teams said nothing when Draymond Green admitted on the record to calling KD on the phone immediately after losing the NBA Championship in 2016. No one said anything when there were all those reports of Kyrie talking to AD about teaming up on the Celtics earlier this season. But as soon as it's Lebron and the Lakers, Pelicans asking the league to investigate and enforce tampering rules. Popovich telling the Pelicans not to deal him to us. etc etc

I actually like the Lakers. I've always been a Shaq (since his Magic days) and Kobe fan. I still think Kobe is more clutch than Lebron and would take him over Lechoke if I were starting a team (doesn't mean I think he's the better overall player). As long as Bron is in a Lakers uniform, I hope they fail. They can win as many titles as they want with AD and whoever else they sign after that.

The Celtics would be hard pressed to manage a roster with 4 players totalling 120 million on their cap, though. I can't see the Pelicans taking on either long term contract of Hayward or Horford.

Horford would defenitely go in the trade, to match and basically be like for like positionally. But current version of Hayward is negative asset, so its extremely hard to get rid of his contract.

He is still one of the better Bigs around, all star, very versatile, excellent leader. Elite role player and glue guy. You have to use the cap on someone short term when you rebuild and wait out better days (we cant honestly think they will attract FAs without AD), and he could be nice stop gap and mentor for younger team.


Whatever team they trade with they have to match with someone, unless a team is giving a high salary star, Horford even at his age is better asset then most matching pieces.

Problem with Celtics is they should gone all in on AD past summer, because they have Clippers and Memphis first rounders, back when no one expected those two teams to do this well, so their picks would even projected to be very high with Memphis and good lottery with Clippers. But now closer to draft, those picks are less attractive since those two teams doing too well and you can see who those picks will go for (picks more enticing when you dont have well scouted underwhelming faces to it). Should offered those picks at their highest value, plus their own, and Horford, Brown and whoever else filler.

I'm just not sure if the Pelicans would want to take that contract on if they are in full rebuild mode once they trade AD. I would think that the would want the cap space for free agency this summer.

And I had said it several times over with all of those draft picks the Celtics have. You can't hang on to them as long as they did. First off, there was no way that all of those picks would make team. Secondly, draft picks are always the great variable in trades. You truly have no idea where they will end up being in the draft order.

And I didn't watch the game last night. With my recent health issues, it's tough to even stay up past 9:00. I'm curious as to why Zubac only got 15 minutes. He wasn't in any foul trouble, by what I could see in the boxscore

@CR 7 i only saw the first half but Zubac wasn’t really doing much on the offensive or defensive end. Would get doubled up pretty quick let once he got the ball and the Sixers were scoring pretty easily. Ingram was impressive and played great, Rondo was fine, McGee had a couple nice plays but overall very meh.

So yeah, bar Ingram the Lakers did nothing and would’ve lost by 50+ most likely

They only need 22M in salaries back, Tatum, Brown and the small contracts they have signed for next season get you over that sum already, even without counting in the four 1st round picks from this summers draft. The Pelicans dont need to take back Horford, Hayward and Smart and i doubt they accept any of them when they are in rebuild mode

Davis's contract has a 15% trade kicker, which he could waive if he wanted to, but his salary for next year is already at nearly 28 million.

Thank you, his post confused me, because everyone in RealGM BBall forums been saying Horford is necessary to match salaries. But their assessment and his numbers didnt add up.
