The only picks that Boston has that were likely in play here were the non-lottery picks, which Indy obviously refused, for whatever reason.
Considering that PG was a likely just a 1 yr rental, Boston would have been stupid to waste their best assets on him as those are assets they will need to potentially bring in a real star e.g. A. Davis.
If they blew their best picks on a rental like PG, they'd have nothing of worth left to offer for a potential block-buster trade down the road.
In the end of the day, the Cs can't afford to spend on a donkey, the money they have saved for a thoroughbred. If they did that, later on no one will sell them a thoroughbred for donkey money as that would be the only money they'd have left.

I can see the "out of conference" argument but it feels like a stretch to me. Indy is basically pressing the restart button here and the best thing they could do in that case is get as many 1st round picks as possible. Loading up on below average starters is only gonna delay the rebuild, keeping them out of the playoffs but also probably out of the top lottery picks too, stuck in perpetual (sub)mediocrity.

It would be insanely exciting to see Westbrook in Lakers, defenitely stand the fuck up moment for that franchise. But how likely is it? I know that's his home, but many can be from there, but how often do you end up there? Do we know how interested he is?
Not that it should fucking matter since he hasnt even played single game for Lakers yet, but what would getting Russ mean for hype machine that is Lonzo?

So Rubio traded to Jazz for 2018 1st round pick? Originally OKCs I think its supposed to be.
I actually like Rubio and thought he got undeserved shit, but its also a relief to finally move on from him since it wasnt going anywhere (even if that barely gives us much? OKC draft pick for next year? Thats hardly gonna be top half pick). I saw around only 20-25 full games of Wolves past season (I'm bit of a casual fan lol, plus time zones horrible for games), and despite all the good defending and passing, it was infuriating to see all the clever plays get bogged down simply because no one bothers to close him down much and instead choice to close down other lanes, because they dont see him threatening enough of a shooter. I dont need PG to be a lethal scorer when we had 3 players who averaged around 20ppg past season, but you have to atleast be able to threaten on your own and more easier open up space for others indirectly. Tyus Jones was more useful at that off the bench, kid has sweet jumper, but Rubio excelled on plenty except what you need the most fundementally, even if the critique for him was IMO too exaggerated.
If you give away that salary and already got rid of likes of Jordan Hill/Petkovic, then it means we should have around 30ish mill? Thats decent sum to work with in free agency. Butler was talking about calling his allstar friends to come join him, I dont expect someone big, but defenitely type of excellent quality PG like Lowry if we are lucky, would be dope. Thats the best case scenario, I'm expecting someone more like Teague instead (everyone getting the fuck out from Pacers), he is very good atletic scorer, but aint no Lowry.

Russell plays the 2 like he did in college. He would also get to play off the ball more, which in theory would increase his efficiency

I would preferred Lowry as overall smart floor general/better shooter PG, but he would demanded alot more then Teague, with latter we can still afford to add other good players atleast. Teague would fit well prolly tho, very atheltic and drives to the basket with force, and quite good shooting procentage when open.

Yeah I just found out (been at work, just glad enough to see Rubio traded abruptly to notice already signed replacement), not my ideal choice for sure, but not too bad, is very good and quite fit athlete. Giving him 4-5m more then Rubio is not ideal, would prefered around same price, but since waiving Petkovic and Jordan Hill, there's still quite good cap space to play with hopefully.
Teague, Butler, Wiggins, Dieng, Towns are VERY VERY good way to get started for sure. Western conference is too stacked (LOL Gobert twitted shit is too imbalanced now), but this is defenitely a playoff team now, 1. GSW. 2 Spurs 3. Rockets 4. OKC 5. Utah Jazz (if they keep Hayward), but 6th best defenitely should be this Wolves team now, too good of aquired pieces at short time for sure.
Defenitely want to improve on Dieng tho, a good stretch 4 would be nice.

It's not relevant to Wiggins or Town since this summer is only time they can use up all cap space now completely, so they can give the two super talents big deals on luxury tax, that the owner will be happy to pay on sheer ambition.
Now to convince Millsap to take less then max will be tricky, I guess they gonna say take little less to be a contender down the line. Or maybe even move Diengs 14m contract, who knows, it will be tricky.
Besides this big signing that would make for a sick starting 5, the team would badly need an elite 3 pt shooter since all the starters would just be alright shooters at best.
