They are not going to gain ground on the Suns.

The Suns, who, by the way, are doing just as obvious a tanking job as the Lakers, considering that Briscoe and Chandler, two far superior players to Mozgov and Deng, are also benched. And they have a supposed future HOF SG in Devin Booker, and all that young talent acquired over the last few seasons, and are doing worse than the Lakers. Yet you never hear anyone up in arms about it. But I digress.

So, forget about that 2nd worst record. Let's just hope, as Laker fans, that we can hang onto the pick this year.

And what worries me about losing this pick is not just for 2017. We lose this pick, then we lose 2019 to the Magic. I have no clue how this fucking voodoo works, but that is what they are telling me.

If we keep this pick this year, then 2018 goes to Philadelphia regardless of our record next year. So it is not as if they won't eventually get our pick.

The danger is the lottery. Finish 3rd worst and you're quite a bit less likely to keep a top 3 pick then if you finish 2nd worst. Winning 2 games to move ahead of the Suns sucks. I'm not a fan of tanking in general, but if you're going to do it, do it right.

The problem with losing this pick and and keeping next year, is the Lakers are a young, improving team. Next year, the draft is good too, but I can't see the Lakers finishing bottom 5-6 again. I see a bottom 10-12 of the league, just outside the playoffs, and the lottery. This is the season where losing a pick hurts far more imo. Because if you get a top 3 pick and that rookie ends up having a big impact with the young developing team the Lakers already have, they could borderline challenge for a playoff spot next year, without even looking at potential free agent signings.

Keeping the pick and drafting well also makes The Lakers a more attractive destination for free agents who want to play for team they can see competing in the near future.

By the way, what do you think of Tim Hardaway Jr. I read some rumours about the Lakers going for him this summer... he's looked amazing since getting a starting/6th man spot for the Hawks. Used to be a poor defender but has even improved on that in leaps and bounds this season. I would much prefer him to Nick Young.

We need these kids to develop, and now it's a double edge sword, because they are finally starting to learn how to close out games, at the risk of losing their lottery pick

I don't think anything of Tim Hardaway Jr because he isn't the type of player that we need.

I don't think he's any better than Clarkson.

He's been on a little shooting spree lately and as a debutant is earning his minutes in one of the stronger teams in the league SAS, do you think he has a future in NBA or is one of those cases when a Euroleague guy goes to NBA, plays a few season from the bench and heads back to Europe?

what a comeback last night by the Hawks, won the 4th quarter 44-18 to go to overtime, where they were down 5 with 2:30 to go, then James gets his 6th faul and they managed to win

He's a stretch 4, which goes a pretty long way in this new NBA.

He could carve out a solid career

I honestly do not know the answer. I believe it is conference record, and in that case, the Lakers have the better conference record, which means that the tiebreaker actually goes to Phoenix for the 2nd pick.

i havent really thought about it but now i realize i have no idea what we are supposed to do if we dont get to keep our pick. there are 3 options i think

1. go with what we have right now and try to do as good as possible, then pick up George in 2018
2. trade some of the pieces for a star player and rebuild through free agency
3. tank

i dont think the team is good enough to compete for a playoff spot as it is, unless Ingram suddenly starts performing at allstar level, so i think we would have another season where we are in the lower half of the conference, somewhere between 10th and 14th i think. but i have a plan B in case we arent terrible enough for Doncic. pick Dzanan Musa at 10th-20th pick that kids gonna be a monster too. i know its too early for such predictions but id love one of those 2 at the Lakers
