I agree with gregster, in terms of basic respect for the moderation and the pack mentality, but I would suggest you guys as mods use the arsenal that is post deleting instead of mainly infractions and then eventually bans. It depends on what your threshold is for "senseless", "derailing" or trolling, but some cases are rather obvious, at times its can be nip in the butt by simply deleting instigating posts before things get escalated. This mainly related to "fights" with RUS, whoever is "fighting" tends to be stubborn, and the russian kid allways must have the last word and it becomes such a senseless battle of spam/juvenile tit-for-tats, remember last month having to read through like 6-7 pages(!) of such nonsense in a big transfer/player thread (forgot which it was) before seeing a single hint of on topic update, on of those instances I wondered why the heck non of it werent deleted at all.

So can't you just think to yourself "hey there's a Cronios post, I'll skip that one"? What is this compulsion to read everything you come across, can't you skim?
Yep, I do that, I haven't read a Cronios posts in a long time. But I see that plenty other posters I like aren't able to that, so I still take offence from just that Cronios is still posting.

I can't help but quote you because your posts are that bad, but you're going on my ignore list soon anyways. If the mods don't do something about you.
Are you saying that i should not post my opinion because you dont like me opinion??
Are you trying to justify insulting and bully ppl who happen to have different opinions?

What if i find your posts, equally bad, as you find mine? Have you thought about that??
Do you mind my opinion about your posts, why should i mind yours then?
Should you be silenced as well, if i dont like them?? Sorry, but this is not how open forums work...

I am forced to tolerate your existence, as long as you respect the forum laws, but i am also free to ignore you, but we still have no right to insult each other.

And by insisting there, you only are making my point, only savages attack ppl with other opinions and do not tolerate their existence.
Only in lawless places, the bullies rule...

Interesting idea, Osman. Thanks for the suggestion. I'd be curious about how others feel about that.

I've always treated deleting posts as the "nuclear option" -- reserved for blatant spammers and the like. As much as 10% of a post can be vile and wrong, throwing out the other 90% of it seemed a bit of a disservice.

Now Red has been far more aggressive than any of the rest of us in outright deleting posts. The man has balls, for sure. Maybe I need to grow my pair a little more and take the same approach. But I am more apt to move posts, even off in a mods-only test thread if necessary, than I am to outright delete everything.

i too take offense by some crap posts i read, should their creators be banned, or silenced?
Why do i have the decency to tolerate them?

Just skimmed this one.

J/K, I agree but deleting posts is probably too tedious of a job to ask mods to do. A simpler idea would be to close threads when shit starts to go off. Like yesterday's Neil Armstrong. Closing that thread would have sent a message that the type of conversing is not enjoyed. Of course people will sometimes take their squabbles to a new thread, but then they can be banned.

Aus got banned because he got two infractions last night: one for fighting with [RUS] in the Neil Armstrong thread and one for telling Cronios to shut the fuck up.

He already had one outstanding infraction, so those two pushed him over the threshold.
Then ban me because I will keep on telling Cronios to shut up. If he is not to be banned then I don't want to stay on this forum and if I am staying I am telling Cronios to shut the fuck up at every opportunity. And members know damn well how I become when I want to persist.

Actually, deleting posts is not that tedious. It's actually easier than moving posts to another thread, for example.

Sorry, Jack. But I have to disagree with you here. We cannot make these forums exclusive only to those posters with whom you agree with.

You can tell him to shut up. But there's a gray line between that and being outright abusive, insulting, or a troll. Mods have to find where that gray line is, and it's not easy. But you can easily fall on the wrong side of it.

Greg: I rarely notice you guys deleting (as in active threads I check and see posts I saw not there anymore), but noticed at times when Red has "nibbed" shit in the butt in certain threads, cant see what was deleted, but notice it in terms of suddenly derailed thread being on topic by persistent urging/moderating (can be as innocent stuff as City fan making Dzeko thread about everything City). Its a useful tool to use now and then, steer something in where it should remain and remind posters there is a basic consequence in persisting with derailing with irrelevant nonsense (seen too often nothing is done even when several posters complain the thread was too derailed, as in certain RUS vs whoever fights).

I just figured there were a lot of posts that could be deleted, so I figured it might be easier to just close a thread for a bit.

Why don't you just add him on your ignore list?

There are members with whom I don't agree, quite a lot actually but what Cronios writes cannot be tolerated. He is simply trolling, no one in his right mind would come up with what he writes. It has gone too far lately.
