cant you make all new memberships require a mod approval?

^^^^ This. Had similar constant spamming tard in XT, and thats what we did to take care of it, as a way to slow him down, while considering permanent solutions, like IP ban. And that XT spammer wasnt spamming with absolute gay porno filth like this lowlife is, so in this case, the above would be even more necessary.

How about a rule where posts that contain links/images have to be approved by a moderator if a user has fewer than 20(?) posts

That way new users can still register and post, but they can't post images or spam links. That would take care of the spamming problem too.

There are way too many user registrations each day for moderator approval to be compulsory.

If you're reading this Alvin, thanks a lot for giving us the impetus to improve this forum :)

I'm not sure there are.

If you look through a list of the most recent members to join, the majority will already be banned for being a spammer/Alvin.

There aren't that many genuine new posters.

Well I guess I overestimated then :)

Still, it's a bit of a pain having to manually approve each account, and that solution would only prevent known spammers like Alvin, because there's no way of knowing if new accounts from new IP addresses are spammers.

Most spammers have an advert in their sig, so can be spotted easily enough.

Still, if the IP ban works, there's no need for other measures.
