Well, usually people PM a mod and they ask the admins. Then you get the answer and a short explanation and no one is the wiser.

But someone asks in a thread and now its some grand thing.

Its really not. But I don't even know if I can change a name. So I asked someone, they said no and I thought the guy deserved an explanation.
