My hope too, as just £20m (the remaining cash after buying the full ownership of Criscito) wouldn't be enough to sign two world class players, unless we intend to sell lots of our sidelined players.

Indeed, we need lots of improvement in our midfield line, I'll express my view for the upcoimg season in another thread, which I'll open today(most probably). Hope you'll all like the idea.

How did you guys come to think Mertesacker is for sale. He is happy in Bremen and will play CL next year (he just came this season).
He is better than Metzelder and probably the best CB in the Bundesliga, although Naldo is the best in 1on1, and not slow and clumsy (silly cliché).
We have to get Metzelder, he is good, reliable and for free.

Mertasacker impressed me greatly in the CL. He is going to challenge likes of Mexes & Chivu for the best defender title in next few years. But I would like to see him playing few more years in Bremen before making a step up. He is still very young, and at his age, it might be difficult to cope mentally the pressures of playing for the big club a la Ibrahim Ba.

Metzelder seems to pretty mobile for big man. I didn't know he was so big until I checked his profile recently. However, I wasn't entirely impressed by his organization skills. Germany was complete mess in defence earlier on in the competition, and being most recognizable defender he has to take some blame (Playing with Fredrich doesn't help in his defence). For free, though, he is as good as you can get, I suppose.

On contrary of Mertesacker, Metzelder is tougher and his body balance is noticeable. What is your taste's view about Metzelder? :wink:

Metzelder's body balanced is often horizontal because he's always stretchered off the pitch.

I'd take Pablo from Atletico but he would cost a lot and don't know if he's performing like last season. Let's go for Mertesacker. BArzagli is a Legrottaglie and costs like Mert.

I heard good things about him and we were linked with him. I'm not sure if he's that solid defensively, same with Benfica's Luisao.
