no sometimes a defender needs guidance from a partner who can lead and command his back line like chiellini does. just like cannavaro did with barzagli and materazzi at the wc who are not even rated defenders but put in a string of solid consistant performances. for a 3rd choice he cant be any worse than knezevic and is about our most realistic and affordable target

I don't see a problem with playing two lefties together because, I maintain, playing style is far more important when it comes to CB pairings.

I played left CB most of the time, despite only being decent with my left foot, and never had any problem. The key thing was that my CB partner had pace, as that was what I lacked.
