I guess we'll have to settle for fullback that have some defensive liabilities but with good attacking skills or vice-versa depending on what the coach(Ranieri or other) wants for his system.

Fullbacks that are good in both categories are rare and when a team finds one they keep him.

:xfinger: Mattioni Never saw him play but "they" say he's a Maicon type player.

We've been linked to Zuniga of Siena once before and not too long ago. Don't know if he's good enough.

That was the site that had Capel's contract running out this summer I think. It's 2011 according to other sites.

Reports: Juve join Gallas hunt Monday 8 December, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are reports in the peninsula that Juventus are ready to join the battle to sign Arsenal malcontent William Gallas.

The French international is expected to leave the Emirates Stadium in January after being stripped of the captaincy for publicly critcising his club.

Milan had been widely tipped to make an offer for Gallas, but it seems they may have Serie A competitors in the race for his signature.

According to Sportmediaset, Juve boss Claudio Ranieri is keen to be reunited with the man he worked with at Chelsea in 2001.

The 31-year-old would bring some valuable experience as the Old Lady enter the crucial phase of the Champions League.

While Gallas would probably welcome the transfer in principle, his wages may prove a stumbling block as Juve have a strict salary structure.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also read Eboue is unhappy, maybe we should go for Eboue instead of Gallas, but hey, no matter who of the two, it would be a big reinforcement.

Why is the media keep saying this?

We're paying high wages to all the senior players we signed in the last 3 years.
2.6m eur to Tiago, 2.5m to Sissoko and Boumsong, 2.4 to Zanetti, 2m to Andrade, Salihamidzic and Iaquinta. 1.8m to Grygera, 1.7m to Almiron.
Last summer we were even more generous. 3.5m to Amauri, 3m to Poulsen.

because smart clubs like real give the double amount for wages, i guess
Probably. We certainly won't offer Gallas the 5m a year he's earning in Arsenal, while teams with defensive problems, like Real or Milan, may be willing to pay 4m or 5m a year.
I agree that his wage demands may be a stumbling block but the media makes us look like we're Sampdoria or Lazio and we can't pay more than 1m for wages.

We can easily pay Gallas 3m or 3.5m eur and if Milan or Real won't do some stupidity and offer him 4m or 5m, then we will get Gallas.

Where did you get that from?? Srna is a quality player and I am not being biased here at all.
Wow I was a bit harsh but I don't see him in a "big" club. We need some fullbacks and he can't really play there. As a winger he's better but still inconsistent and some better and younger options would be available before him.

If we have one full back that primarily defends and one that primarily attacks, it should maintin the balance of the team.

I can only imagine they say it because we are more selective in whom we pay a big wage than some big teams.

Compared to how many players the likes of Milan pay 4m+ wages to, anyway.

In terms of paying for quality, we overpay the most probably. Chelsea overpay ridicolously, but they do so for quality or very good players (Milan too, their salaries are based on former great players having old salaries etc) Our squad on the other hand, pay ALOT, little less then the top paying clubs, but still our squad is filled with mediocre or average players, squad players more then starting quality etc. So yeah, I wouldnt really say we are stingy with salaries, or cant afford it, considering how high our salary budget is despite the lack of quality.
