Torkel, Les Paul is a great guitar, actually one of my fav:) Front pick has a great bassy sound that no other guitar reproduces. No blues solo sounds as good as it does on Les Paul (that is if you like Gary Moore kind of blues:D). Did you buy it yet?

If yes: How's your back?:D It's a grea tguitar, but it's bloody heavy:D

Telekaster is also bluesy guitar. Not really for tehnical stuff. Also good choice.

Same with Strat. Just that it has slightly better tehnical possibilities. It is a guitar in the middle, so to say. You can play almost any kind of music on it. Thats why is so popular i guess. The sound it produces (like telecaster) is slightly sharper.

Josh, what model of Strat do you have? What country of origin?

I'm currently playing Precission bass, 1972 or something. Belongs to a friend, and he doesnt want to sell it:frown:

Btw, I'm also in the band. Two to be precise :)

No, will be sometime before I can think of buying a new guitar, just love planning. Probably gonna be a bit after the summer.

And thanks for all the advice, appreciate it. :) Apart from the Telecaster and Les Paul I've been considering some of the more shredder guitars, like an ESP or a Musicman. Also the Ibanez Joe Satriani signature (the red one) looks sweet. I don't play in a band, so I've been thinking that maybe I should consider a "super soloist" type of guitar.

Then you shouldn't get a telecaster. Especially not a light one.

But it looks so cool though. Is it hard to play fast one it? Because of the neck, or something else?

No not at all. It's rather easy to play fast I'd say.

It's just that it doesn't have a clear sound, it's more of a metal guitar. Perfect for metallica riffs but not as good for blues solos though. But then again there are of course telecasters with harder wood.

    Speaking about blues solos.
I tried Sultans of swing yesterday. That has got to be the hardest piece of music ever done. I can't see how he came up with all that. Anyone who has managed to play it? I wasn't even close.

Zambrotta, i totaly disagree with you on telecaster :D

I cant imagine Mettallica going out on a stage with telecasters plugged in messa-Bugie:D

For that kind of sound, you go after ESP or some Ibanez, Washburn, Charvel and stuff like that. (seven stringers come to mind for really heavy stuff)

For clean or semi dirty sound (Rolling stones, Dire Straits, RHCP and so on) you go for an "old" style guitar like Telecaster, Strat and so on. Also good for good old rock, pure valve distorsion.

If you go for Gary Moore, Guns&Roses and stuff, with deep, bluesy solo sound, you go for Les Paul or PRS if you have money.

You can also have models that are quite specific. Strat has what i call Murray model, with top lock & floyde rose. Thats my fav one.

Als what you have to consider is tickness of strings that suits you. For tehnical, fast solos i suggest Ibanez with 9s. For Rock/Blues, i suggest PRS/Strat/ Les Paul with 10s.

Jason Newsted had a telecaster :D

No you are right the telecaster is not made for Metallica riffs, but it is not the kind of guitar you should have if you play by yourself.

I play guitar. Acoustic and Electric. I can play base alittle but who cant :D

Im a kinda messed up guitar player though. I learnt acoustic by starting with the basic chords using sheet notes and took it from there, i played alot when i was like 15/16. Gradually I was able to start playing from listening to music. After a few attempts I can play must medium acoustic. I play electric guitar also and can play some Nirvana, Chris Rea, RHCP and Guns licks. Though Ive never actually learnt a song from start to finish (cant be bothered :D)

I could already play Piano before I started to learn guitar. I think that definately helped with learning to play from listening. Im much better on Piano/Keyboard than I am guitar. I also play drums though alittle sucky

I've been playing guitar for six years, almost going on seven. I play electric and acoustic as well. My acoustic guitar is an Ovation Celebrity and my electric is a Fender 1958 Sunburst Stratocaster (relic of course). I play bass and drums as well.

The guitar thread is back, yay!

Two new guitar players also, cool. That's a cool guitar River, although I prefer the Telecaster. Think I'd have trouble pulling off that color also, but maybe it's because I have very little gold clothing. :D

How much did the Fender set you back, Max? That's a very good guitar if I'm not mistaking.

I've been playing a bit lately, very fun. Trying to learn the Radiohead song "Electioneering", and some stuff from one of my instructional books.
