    Its a beautiful language. In pure Urdu, even the obscenities sound sweet :D Hindi on the other hand is more crude. Even in Bollywood Hindi movies, the songs are generally written in Urdu.

    I'm not sure. Hindi isn't even my mother tongue, so never bothered to even enquire...

    My mother tongue is Malayalam. I end up speaking English mostly and Hindi sometimes, even though I am not very fluent in Hindi.

    I can understand that people have to speak English with each other in some cases because people come from different parts of India and hence speak a different language. But it annoys the heck out of me when I see Indians from the same city/area speaking in English with each other. It's like they have to prove to each other and others that they're 'educated' or something.

It's like they have to prove to each other and others that they're 'educated' or something.
    True. You can't say the same about Keralites though. If we find another one of our kind, we start speaking in Malayalam...

    School, government, tv..
    It varies from state to state. Hindi is the national language though for the central government.

    As for me, it depends on what the other person is more comfortable with. Some people from the same city like to speak in English more than Kannada(my native language), so I speak in English with them.
