I noticed that Belgium are coached by Johan Walem. He used to coach the Udinese youth team. Definitely a spy in the camp :D

I don't see a Verratti or Balotelli in this current squad, no predestinato, certainly outside of the goalkeepers. I think both Bardi and Leali could become very good or potentially more, and there is a possibility with Perin if he becomes less erratic. In defence there are some prospects, and up front too, but no stand out quality.

Over the next year or so we'll see the team and players develop, and can work out the potential stars. I remember with the '2011-2013' U21 team just gone with Insigne, Verratti, Marrone, Gabbiadini, Destro, Florenzi etc, when they first came in people were worried as the '2009-2011' team with Balotelli, Giovinco, Criscito, Ranocchia, Candreva, Poli etc had ended. In the end the '2011-2013' team finished better in the Euros. It's too early to tell if this team will be successful, but it'll be hard to match the previous two.

As far as the future of the Azzurri is concerned we shouldn't forget that El Shaarawy (20), Verratti (20), Perin (20) and De Sciglio (20) are all eligible to play for this team, and Florenzi (22) is just past the mark. There are also several aged 18-21 that are not in the squad but highly rated.

U-21s: Italy avenge Belgians

By Football Italia staff

A single goal from Cristian Battocchio proved enough for Italy’s Under-21s to defeat their Belgian counterparts on Monday evening.

Luigi Di Biagio’s side had fallen to a 3-1 reverse in Rieti during September’s 2015 European Championship qualifying clash between the two teams, but avenged that result yesterday.

The Azzurrini dominated proceedings in Genk and beyond Battocchio’s header from a corner could have extended the score-line out.

The result moves Italy up to second in Group 9 qualifying, six points behind the Belgians but having played two games less.

Belgium U-21s 0-1 Italy U-21s

Battocchio 3 (I)

Belgium: Coosemans; Vermijl, Arslanagic (Mechele 46), de Bock, Lukaku; Malanda, Cisse (Tielemans 46); Hazard; Bruno (Vetokele 71), Batshuayi, Mpoku

Italy: Bardi; Zappacosta, Bianchetti, Antei, Biraghi; Battocchio (Improta 80), Viviani, Baselli, Fossati; Belotti (Longo 72), Rozzi (Molina 52)

Goal:

------------------------------------------

Sounds like a positive result and performance.

We are trying to sign Cerri the #9, he's a bit of a beast.

Good job Simone Scuffet is not a striker. Actually he is extremely highly rated, as is Audero. Italy seem to be churning out a lot of good keepers at youth level in recent years.

Andrea Palazzi (Internazionale)
:shifty:
