Here you go Luke,line-ups a bit late but whatever.

U21: Azzurrini slip in Greece

Despite sensational goals from Giuseppe Rossi and Daniele Dessena, Italy’s 100 per cent Under-21 qualifying record ended with a 2-2 draw in Greece.

Fresh from a 2-0 win over Croatia, Italy wanted another positive result to consolidate their position at the top of the group for the European Under-21 Championships. The only change to the starting XI was Vicenza’s Piermario Morosini in for the suspended Luca Cigarini.

There was an adjustment to the officials, though, as the Russian referee and his assistants were unable to reach the Greek capital in time, so German Stark took over.

It started well in Athens with Sebastian Giovinco threading through for Robert Acquafresca, but the man who bagged a brace last week could only turn his angled drive past the post.

Instead, it was Greece who took the lead with their first real attempt after 19 minutes, Petropoulos rising to head in a corner.

Dessena had a potential equaliser disallowed soon after and Giuseppe Rossi slipped as he was sent clear by Empoli starlet Giovinco.

Torino’s Matteo Rubin was forced off with an injury to make way for Lazio revelation Lorenzo De Silvestri. Giovinco continued to dominate proceedings, as he tested Kasmeridis with a free kick and created another promising opportunity for Acquafresca, halted by a debatable offside flag.

Pierluigi Casiraghi’s side struggled after the restart and risked going 2-0 down when Rimini shot-stopper Andrea Consigli fingertipped a dangerous Hristodoulopoulos effort wide of the target.

Italy finally drew level on 62 minutes, as former Parma and Manchester United man Giuseppe Rossi scored a sensational individual effort. He found space down the left and unleashed a powerful and precise drive to beat the goalkeeper.

Moments later Rossi skimmed the woodwork again from the edge of the area, but Consigli was tested twice by Makos from close range.

The Azzurrini turned the game around completely in the closing stages with a splendid team goal. Rossi and Giovinco combined before Parma’s Dessena smashed his unstoppable strike into the top corner.

It still wasn’t over in this dramatic encounter, as in the final minute substitute De Silvestri brought down Makos. Mitroglu stepped up and buried his penalty to Consigli’s right, securing a 2-2 draw for Greece.

This ends Italy’s 100 per cent record, but they remain clear at the top of Group 1 with 13 points in five games. Greece move second on 10 and Croatia follow with nine.

Azzurrini Pegged Back By Late Greece Goal

Greece Under-21s 2-2 Italy Under-21s

Italy Under-21s 100 per cent qualifying record was put to an end in Athens last night after a last-minute goal by their Greek counterparts.

Pierluigi Casiraghi’s youngsters had won all four of their qualifiers in Group 1 before this game, and had produced a dominant 2-0 win over Croatia at the weekend.

Italy created the first chance when Sebastian Giovinco threaded a superb pass through to Robert Acquafresca, but the striker put it wide.

Greece then took the lead on 19 minutes when Petropoulos powered in a header from a corner.

Italy hit back and Giovinco started to run the show, sending Giuseppe Rossi clean-through but unfortunately the Villarreal man slipped.

Giovinco then created another good chance for Acquafresca, before bringing out a good save from Kasmeridis with a free kick.

Greece could have added a second though and Italy 'keeper Fabio Consigli fingertipped a dangerous Hristodoulopoulos around the post.

Italy finally equalised on 62 minutes with a fantastic goal by Rossi. The ex-Manchester United man picked up the ball on the left and then powered in a rasping drive past the 'keeper.

With nine minutes remaining the Azzurrini then took the lead. Giovinco combined superbly with Rossi, before Daniele Dessena unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top-corner.

It seemed as if Italy were going to earn their fifth consecutive win in Group 1, but in the last minute, Lazio youngster Lorenzo De Silvestri brought down Makos in the area, and Mitroglu did the rest from the penalty spot.

Italy remain top of the group with 13 points from five games. Greece are second with 10, with Croatia in third with nine.

Casiraghi Happy With Azzurrini Despite Draw

Italy Under-21 Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi admitted it was a shame to concede a late equaliser to Greece during last night’s 2-2 draw but all in all he was pleased with the performance of his team.

The Azzurrini had seemed set to continue their 100 per cent record in Group 1, after goals by Giuseppe Rossi and Daniele Dessena had put them 2-1 ahead in Athens.

However an 89th minute penalty by Greek substitute Mitroglu earned the Greeks a share of the spoils.

“It’s a shame because we got things back on track after a bad start,” Casiraghi explained in his post-match Press conference.

“At the start we were playing too slowly. We needed a kick up the backside and we got one.

“We need to learn to start games as we mean to go on. It’s something that players learn and obviously these young lads will make mistakes.

“After we gave the goal away we played really well and dominated the game. We created lots of chances and I am happy with how we performed.” Italy’s next Euro 2009 qualifier is against minnows Azerbaijan on November 16.

And again Casiraghi is about to call up an argentine-born striker to play for Italy:disagree: I hope it's not getting out of control. Osvaldo and this guy may have some talent and class but IMO we shouldn't allow all the 3rd class players from southamerica who don't get a call up from their home-country to play for Italy. It's a shame if it continues like this,I don't want the Italian NT to end up like Inter with all those Argentinians. BTW what's with this Forestieri guy,is he playing for Italy or Argentina now?

Trejo receives Azzurrini offer Friday 26 October, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Argentine striker Oscar Trejo has revealed an approach from Italy’s Under-21 side to represent the Azzurrini at the 2008 Olympics.

Born in Santiago del Estero in April 1988 from Italian parentage, the Real Mallorca hitman admitted he could be an 'Oriundo.’

“It is a great opportunity for me,” confessed Trejo. “I have to talk it over with my family, but for the moment I will not discard any option.”

The Boca Juniors youth product is not the first Argentine to have been approached by Under-21 boss Pierluigi Casiraghi.

He had also called up Fiorentina’s Daniel Osvaldo for a European Championship qualifier, but the striker had to pull out due to an injury.

It is possible Casiraghi is planning to field an all-Argentine front pairing in the 2008 Olympics – a decision that is guaranteed to cause controversy in the peninsula.

Italy have long been one of the most consistently successful Under-21 sides in the world and to turn to South America for imports would be considered a needless snub to local talent.

Osvaldo elects to join Italy squad

Argentina-born Pablo Daniel Osvaldo has opted to represent Italy at international level after being named in the squad to face Azerbaijan and the Faroe Islands.

The ACF Fiorentina striker is one of two new faces in Pierluigi Casiraghi's 22-man squad along with Pisa Calcio forward Alessio Cerci. Osvaldo, 21, has scored twice in three league appearances for the Viola this season while 20-year-old Cerci has hit seven goals in Serie B for Pisa while on loan from AS Roma. The Group 1 leaders are without Villarreal CF striker Giuseppe Rossi, who is out for six weeks with a knee injury and Torino FC defender Matteo Rubin. They face Azerbaijan on 16 November and the Faroese five days later.

    U-21: Marchisio drops out

Frosinone winger Salvatore Bocchetti has replaced injured Empoli man Claudio Marchisio for the Under-21 European Championship qualifiers.

Marchisio, a Juventus youth product currently plying his trade at the Stadio Castellani, left the training camp today due to an Achilles Heel injury to his right foot.

He will be unable to recover in time for the qualifiers against Azerbaijan on Friday evening and away to the Faroe Islands on Wednesday November 21.

Serie B starlet Bocchetti was given the call by Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi to fill the gap.

Casiraghi already has to do without striker Giuseppe Rossi, who snapped the meniscus ligament in his knee last week.

    Rossi adds to injury crisis

Parma defender Marco Rossi has suffered a serious injury while training with the Azzurrini ahead of their Euro 2009 qualifier against Azerbaijan.

Pierluigi Casiraghi’s Under-21 side top Group 1 and are strong favourites at the Stadio Bruno Recchioni in Fermo against a side with only one point from five games.

However, they will have to do without the talented Rossi for a while after it was confirmed that the 20-year-old had damaged knee ligaments.

The news is a cruel blow to the young stopper who has become Parma’s first choice in recent weeks.

Casiraghi is facing something of an injury crisis and has already been forced to shuffle the deck.

Frosinone’s Salvatore Bocchetti has already been called up at short notice to replace Claudio Marchisio, who has an Achilles Heel injury.

Star striker Giuseppe Rossi is already missing with a long-term meniscus knee ligament injury of his own.

    Giovinco is awesome!!!

De Ceglie not that bad at LB and Criscito is doing the job in the center. We're playing Azerbaijan who have 1pt in 5 games though.
