You like to generalize, don't you?

No, I won't be offended. I was raised in an open minded family.
I don't want to involve the other Arab countries, it wouldn't be fair to them. Forgive me if the generalization came of in a bad way.

It says your home country is the U.S.A yes ? Fred honestly stated a good question, and since your home country is the U.S.A, wouldn't you say socially, the U.S or any democratic country for that instance, are more open minded ?

I was born in Houston, Texas but I'm a Saudi.

There's no argument about U.S and other european countries being more open minded. Yes, they are.

Imagine for a moment if Saudi Arabia was as open minded as the States. Would you say that more people would be envious of Saudi Arabia now ? Especially the other Arab countries ?

I only have to say one thing here. Why would anyone envy Arabs on anything? In our current state, there is nothing to envy.
oh no you did'nt fred :D they envy us for our "mafee moshkela" mentality. everything now is mafee moshkela as if they r talking about another region in the world. thats why i was'nt very surprised when there were peaceful stands during the world climate summit in denmark and no one seemed bothered here, where there is a real risk the delta might drown should the water levels increase as they predict, 3ady mafeeesh moshkela they r talking about sth else dont u worry.

Well, I didn't know about that, Burke, you and mom certainly know better :D
Maybe they were planning a long road trip? I wish I was born in LA, though. Much cooler.

Saudi Arabia will never be open minded as the states. The imagination thingy doesn't work

Honestly, I don't know what are you trying to prove here, but, my answer would be "probably, more envious".

Of course the imagination thingy doesn't work but you see where I'm getting at. If I were to answer Fred's question, and of course no offense to anyone, I would blame it on the closed-mindedness and the puppet/corrupted governments. Why would anyone envy a closed-minded people with retarded governments ? It's the government's job to turn a country's social, political and economical system around (which the West does fairly well) but if it's going to stay as how it is in the Middle-East for the past hundreds of years, then Fred is right, why would anyone envy Arabs ?

Yes. "Arab" Khaleejis.

Really, what do people envy "Arab Khaleeji's" for?

Superior education, superior health care systems, superior universities, superior infrastructure, etc?

Ya, exactly, the things that really matter we don't really have them. But we do have high buildings, big fountains and a couple of man made islands.

I think we should be more realistic about ourselves, the only difference between gulf countries and other third world countries, is that somebody dug a hole here and found a liquid they call oil.

Also, the fact that you're better off than other Arab countries is not really much of an achievment is it? Its not like the other Arabs are any good. As sad as i am to admit this.

First of all, I'm talking about how Khaleejis are envied by other countries in the Middle-East not the West.

As I replied to Fred, I'm not talking about all Arabs. I'm talking about Khaleejis, they are the ones who are envied by others for their money. Yes, Khaleeji governments, just like all other arab countries, are corrupted of course. However, Khaleejis live much better than most other Arab nations and for that, they're hated and stereotyped. It's so obvious. I'm not saying Khaleejis are angels and faultless, but envy, my friend, is a disgusting sin.

I, for example, was born in the US and moved back to Saudi Arabia when I was 4 years old. I don't really remember anything from my time in the states, therefore, you can say that I was raised in Saudi Arabia. Raised in Saudi, I'm an open minded person who lived with a civilized, educated family all my life. Yet, I'm being judged by my nationality rather than my character and mindset so often.

But, again, I hate generalization. Not all arabs. I have a lot of arab friends from Lebanon, Jordan/Palestine, Egypt and Libya.

A fact, though, that is unfortunately most Arabs just love to fight each other.

You know what I was refering to :D
 for being a Saudi wela for being born in Houston? wela both? :D

Who are the others though?

Eddy lives in the US. If he is one of the "others" then i think its silly to think he envies Khaleejis, if anything its the complete opposite. We need to be realistic about ourselves mate, we really do.

You live in the Saudi now? Libyan friends? Where are they from?

See. That is stereotyping. When did I say Khaleejis are better than other 3rd world countries? The fact that we're hated only because that crude oil that we found is called envy.

Well, we have almost as much crude oil too, so if thats the reason for envy, then i am in the safe side :D

I'm not really proud of everything that happens in Saudi or other Gulf countries, but I being judged by my nationality so often is what makes me conclude that those people are just envious.

I don't live in Saudi Arabia right now. I study in Nottingham, UK. I have two Libyan friends here.

Well, we have almost as much crude oil too, so if thats the reason for envy, then i am in the safe side :D
I think you got what I want to say, Fred. You're Libyan. You know how Saudis are stereotyped in almost all arab countries. It's wrong.

And judging from the Libyan guys here, yes, you're in the safe side :D
