Maybe similar formation but completely different tactics, intensity, instructions… although i agree it’s also a physical and mental issue.

I don’t see him doing his best neither as part of the trident upfront nor as part of the two CM/CDM’s pair we will use, maybe can do ok there but will only continue to regress and surely won’t secure himself a starting spot.

Think he might get close to his best as being the third CM of a 3 man midfield, either as b2b or maybe playing in a slightly more advanced role than the other two midfielders, but even then i doubt it, because i don’t see who he will bench, which was my main point.
Why though? He has been mostly playing as CDM in Alkmaar and at the begging of his Atalanta journey, he was moved closer to the goal lately, but he was mainly CDM in his career.
Having that in mind, one thing has to change, no matter where he is playing. He has to stay focused, has to move and think faster and he has to stop making silly mistakes. If he wont do that he shouldnt be playing at all.

Thing is that most hype around him started after he was moved in a more advanced role, which is where he made the biggest impact via goals plus assists and overall contribution… and was the actual reason we purchased him, we didn’t buy a CDM for €60M, he was supposed to bring us much needed goals and assists from midfield.

And once again my main point is that i don’t see who’s starting spot he can win over by just doing the basics, and for him to regain his mental and physical shape he’ll need to start games to build back his confidence, which as i previously described will be difficult in our current setup, at this moment he is just a struggling luxury backup.

Anyway, we’ll see how it pans out, but if i were to choose i’d rather cash in now before his value plummets even more.

I have the same issue, but hopefully he suprises us lol.
I can see us putting one winger for the wingback position when we play with him in a trident attack and he could play more in midfield then, but lets see how it really works. For this to happen he has to get his shit together first, because right now Mirretti is a better option than him.

What’s the club’s plan for Koopmeiners? Is he supposed to be a starter or a bench option? With Yildiz and Chico in the squad, I don’t see him starting regularly. If he ends up on the bench and performs like before, he’s on his way to becoming the next Arthur.

If Sancho's coming he's 3rd choice LW/RW and maybe 3rd choice B2B Midfielder after Thuram and Weston.

But like I said earlier, for all parties, he has to be sold. He simply doesn't fit

#2 of total Key Passes for last season in All Competitions, exclude CWC. we only have 2 players that exceed 50 key passes last season in all competitions (non CWC).

For example Real Madrid #1 in La Liga for total Key passes ( player over 50 key passes + first 1 below 50) last season for all competitions except CWC

And this is Atalanta #1 on Key passes in Serie A ( player over 50 key passes + first 1 below 50) last season for all competitions except CWC
Basically Koop play in CDK/Samardiz positions when he at Atalanta

This is Koop passing stats for last season and all seasons in Atalanta

NB : Our top passes to final third last season was Locatelli , 393 passes to final third ,38 key passes (<10% rate Fthird passes > key passes) and he only get 2 assists. For me this is our problem

We didnt buy him for his passing skills, which were always mediocre, but for his scoring abilities. Also he
The problem is, u shouldnt buy a player after a season where he scores twice the goals his xGoal stat shows, because he definitely wont be able to reproduce it regularly and this happened with this bum:

Add to that, that he had:
- less carries per 90, almost half of his progressive carries with Atalanta,
- 2 goal costing mistakes (which is pretty rare),
- had worse ground duels succes rate 0.45 with Juve vs 0.65 with Atalanta)

It the difference of playing style, they play happy go find goal football, we play hopefully not cenceded football and keep passing to the players that unmark. Goalkeeper unmark pass to him

I actually have more hope that Douglas Luiz turns good than this guy, he just doesnt fit, cant play in double pivot and is to abysmal to play in attack.

no player was going to shine in motta system when team barely moved. all moves where back passes and players static. even pirlo would struggle to do anything in motta and tudor systems.
