Yes, Television.

How often do you watch it? What are your views on it as a whole?

Personally, i think television is effectively an advertising box, considering that without advertisments television wouldnt exsist. I prefer not to be influenced by all the advertising and waste my time sitting down and soaking up all the crap they show, and if i do watch television, it would only be for Football, or South Park, and i download most of the south parks i watch anyway.

I find that ever since i stopped watching television, ive become a wiser person and have alot more time on my hands. Now i dont even miss it what so ever.

Discuss.

How so would you say im becoming more philisophical?

    Good on you.

I know a guy who watches TV like 2 hours everyday, and he has absolutely no personality. He is like watching the television itself, he makes these negative/sarcastic comments the whole time. He is like black adder, but picture how it would be to have him around you making these jokes the whole time.

My roommate watches TV a lot, and I dont understand how she can cope with it because I get bored too quickly. And shes always watching programs about celebrities or the cooking channel.

    :yuck:

I always actually find it amusing how people follow celebrities. They are, after all just people. I only found out the other day Britney Spears was pregnant, and everyone else looked at me like i was from some alien planet.

Soap Operas however, are the lowest of the low when it comes to television programming. You follow the fictional lives of people on a day to day basis because your own life is too boring.

I hate those programs like The Fabulous life of Pamela Anderson (or whoever) where they show you everything the celebrity owns and how much they spend per day, etc.
Also the programs where they show inside of the celebs' houses. Boring

I like reality TV. The Apprentice is a great show
And I cant help but love The OC. Sorry

    I watch

    1. News
    2. Discovery/National Geographic, TLC, Science channel
    3. Football (when available)
    4. The Tonight show with Jay Leno

Problem with TV is that there are too many commercials. A 30 minute show turns into one and a half hours.

I think it depends what you watch... If your sitting there soaking up reality bullshit.. then yes you turn into the enevitable turnip.

However if you are soaking up history and culture it cannot be bad... as long as its not too excessive an amount of time

The OC is a teen soap opera :cheesy:
Not exactly soap opera, but a serie. Like Beverly Hills 90210

That i do not disagree with. Educational shows and documentarys are a great side of television. Just the commercials, and other 'lowest common denominator' programs piss me off.

The BBC is one of the better ones because it has no commercials.

Most TV stations are not as good however, and need advertisements to keep running.

Why is that good though? You are following the lives of people who do not exist!

The majority of people cant afford that Shadowfax.

In Germany, we arent that lucky. Only our sport channels are advertising free, and that even costs alot of money per month for the entire package of all the channels (100-200 euro) and in the space of a year, that becomes quite an expense.
