Ok, 2004 is almost over... time to summarize.
Among many many others, here are my runners-up for this year:
ATB - I don't wanna stop
DJ Sammy - Rise Again
DJ Yanni - Won't foget these days
Time Travellers - Those were the days
Elles - From Dark to Light
Amiel - Lovesong
Armin v Buren & Airwave - Slipstream
#6: Maria Nayler - "Naked and Sacred". Last time I heard from her was "One and One" with Robert Miles. I don't know if she's back with good music, but this is a cool tune in the same "dream house" style.
#5: Talla 2XC - "The Air that I breate". I have a great deal of respect for her. She is one of the few which releases at least one good song every year.
#4: DJ Tiesto - "Just Be". The best hard trance tune I have been exposed to this year. I am not too big of a Tieso fan, but this track is totally awesome, with a classic mix of violen and hard beat. Would've been higher on my list thought if it had some vocals in it. But still, I started to think that I am moving away from classic/hard trance... but only until I heard "Just Be".
#3: Sven Van Krachten - "Let Love decide". This vocal trance tune, released in June, has not been featured in too many compilations this year. And this Sven Krachten guy is totally unknown to me. But the tune is exteremely effective and energizing.
#2: Shapeshifters - "Lola's Theme".
Every year I have at least mainstream dance/house among my favorites. This time around it's the Shapelifters with a totally awesome top 40 tune, released in July. I have actually heard it on the radio here in Albany, which is very surprising. Great rythm and excellent job on this ultimate club song.
#1: Top song of the year goes to Accuface with "Your Destination", released in September. Truely fascinating uplift vocal trance tune. Makes you listen to it over, and over, and over again. Awesome mix of female vocals and great rythm. Reminds me of the great times when trance music in its current shape was slowly coming into existence in 1998 and 1999.
