Tuttosport seems convinced we going to play 4-3-3 now:

Not sure how that is going to work out. We just signed 2 wingers, we need to put Higuain and Dybala in the starting XI also. What kind of a 4-3-3 is this.
Easy.

DC - Higuain - Dybala
Matuidi - Marchisio - Pjanic
AS - Chiello - Rugani - Spinazzola
Buffon

Pjaca - Mandzukic - Berna/Cuadrado
Berna(?)/Sturaro - Pjanic/Bentancur - Khedira
MDS - Barza - Benatia - Licht
Szczęsny

Does anyone understand technically why we are so susceptible to goals on low cutbacks from the bye line?
Every team is. It's one of the hardest crosses to stop. It's very hard for a CB to mark a good cut back. You need the CBs and the DMs in good positions. The ball is coming in on the ground so all the striker has to do, if it is a good delivery, is make some sort of connection.

Nah, that's not the problem here. Rugani is too shy on the ball as things stand right now, no point in making him a ball-playing CB now. Benatia is even less secure with his passing IMO, I would trust neither in that role.

Now that Bonucci's gone, we're not going back to 3 man back line. It's a shame because Bonucci offered so much from the back with his ball distribution but oh, well. Whatever :p

4-2-3-1 is what we're built for, obviously, but at some point even Allegri will admit that it's not balanced enough, esp. now with a weakened defense and since I doubt Matuidi will turn out to be the destroyer that the formation really needs. We will evolve to a 4-3-3 at some point just like every top team and CL winner in the past 5 years, but it will take a while since we can't bench Higgy for his price tag or Dybi as the#10.

As a compromise where both would play, the 4-3-2-1 would be an interesting one to test out, with Berna and Dybala playing in the pocket behind Higgy creating havoc and shooting from range. If the game needs width then it's easily changeable back to a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 simply with 1 sub.
