It was not the 3-5-2 that disqualified us.
After the CL draw, we knew our opponents and our schedule.
Regardless of our system, we new of Real's influence with the refs and C Ronaldo's ability to make the difference.
We knew that we would make 1 point at best from the two games. Even if we were better we know that when Real invests money, they have all the favor they need to go past the groups and this year they invested a lot!

We knew that Galata hard pawned us in transfer market, stealing Sneidjer through our hands and humiliate us with the Melo deal, we saw them signing the finisher we cant get since Treze left us, in Drogba. We knew they will be very strong esp at the last game home, as they were always getting results home, ecen with inferior squads.

We knew all that before the first wissle was blown.
None of that could change regardless of our system.
Our only chance was the early push, making points ahead of thenReal games and Galata home games.
The two most important games of the season, that would mark our year and financial gains, were played in the first two games. And what did we do??? How did we approach them?

So stop blaming the system...

3-5-2 is definitely the way to go. We just have to modify it a little bit.

As i pointed out in the match thread fielding 2 strikers is a waste, imo 1 striker will be enough offensive threat and one can never have enough defensive midfielders. Also we should change our wingbacks to more defensive ones. Licht and Asamoah are non-stop up front, dribbling and putting excellent crosses but we need stability in the back. Conte should forbid them to cross the halfline. Also no need for flair and fancy, all we need are muscles.
All in all, this is the way to go:

Buffon
Licht Barza Bonucci Chiellini Asa
Vidal-Pogba-Nainggolan-Marchisio

Llorente

As we can see no one will interrupt Llorente to attack so he should easily bang ~35goals per season. Also suggested transfers:

SELL: Pirlo, Tevez, Quag, Vucinić, Giovinco, Pepe
BUY: Jorginho, Marrone, Fernandinho, Nainggolan, Inler, Behrami

Having only 1 striker in the team means we won't have to use our 3 subs for useless offensive rotation. When our backline will get tired during the game, just sub Ogbonna, Caceres and Peluso in.
Motto for this team: Defend till we die!

Get more offensive wingbacks, that Cuadrado fella should be first priority if Conte wants to keep this formation.

Also a trequartista would do behind the strikers, just like Napoli used to have Hamsik behind Cavani and Lavezzi/Pandev.

Buffon
Litchsteiner Barzagli Chiellini Caceres(LB)
Pogba Vidal (DM) Marchisio
Vucinic(free role) Tevez (free role)
Llorente

Caceres plays LeftCB for uruguay

Vidal needs to basically be an anchor man guarding the defence and unfortunatly NOT attacking as much

Vucinic and Tevez can have free roles like attacking midfielders so that they can go on the wing when needed but also play centrally.

Llorente needs to link with vucinic and tevez perfectly.

It's so simple. All we have to do is clone Pogba. Why didn't someone think of this sooner?

It was more a mentality thing in CL than personnel, we need a good winger and a good left back.
With what money?

Things weere alrady tricky even after qualifying ofr the quarters , But after the Gala debacle...our options have been ridiculously shortened.

Mentality needs to change more than anything against these lower level teams. I'm not scared when we face big teams because we play, it's against the minnows we drop points. We need to be able to change to 4 in the back which suits Europe far more. We haven't got the pace to hit teams on the counter for the most part to be able to play defensive, we need to keep possession higher up the pitch not just between the centre backs. We need to be able to change gears in Europe, have some flexibility and less fear of copping goals. This doesn't mean don't worry about defence but you have to be able to take that risk in Europe. Get a left back, get a right winger and we should be ok. Hopefully, hopefully we decide to spend a decent sum on two quality players and that's it. We have the pieces it's mainly mentality that needs to change.
