As I have said in other posts - trying to replace Alves with another Alves type of player is one thing. What I suspect is going through Allegri's mind is that he will require the right back to be solid defensively first and foremost. The above 11 could easily be mistaken for being a 3412 as well.
Actually, a 3-4-1-2 could work as well, with Berna behind Dybala and Higuain/Mandzukic.

We actually used a 3-4-3 often last year and no one seems to remember this. It fits most of our players pretty well now, as it puts Cuadrado in his best position and it gives Dybala and the other AM a little more room between the lines. The only difference this year is that we don't have Bonucci to play the ball so Allegri might be reluctant to use anything with a sweeper.

Which two players would you all like to see start in the midfield in this current formation?

I'd really like to try Marchisio - Matuidi. It's hard to bench Pjanic, but I think we would benefit from a little more defensive muscle in the middle considering the departure of Bonucci. Plus up front we have Bernardeschi and Costa (assuming they'll eventually start) to add more creativity, so Pjanic's vision won't be missed as much. Plus Marchisio himself isn't exactly lacking in vision either. Matuidi is just a breath of fresh air after last season's lack of any sort of steel or athleticism in the middle, he really improves us and will eventually need to start. Bentancur may very well be in this conversation soon as well, a great purchase there.

4-3-2-1 is the best one. All our attackers can play in this formation so neither Dybi or Higgy has to benched. We can also play 3 midfielders which I think is key in games where we are getting overrun in the midfield.

-----------Pinsoglio-----------
Lichst-Rugani-Chiello-Sandro
---Matuidi-Marchisio-Pjanic--
--------Dybala--Berna--------
-------------Higgy-------------

Essentially within the flow of the game it can turn to a 4-3-1-2 or a 4-3-3 depending on who we play and how we want to play. The supporting attackers can drift wide and cut inside on their stronger foots like they do best.

Wishful formation:

Buffon
MDS-Rugani-Chiellini-Alex Sandro
Pjanic
Berna-Dybala-D.Costa
Higuain-Mandzukic
Only one manager would play such formation and he's coaching City :(

That's a horrible formation. No defensive coverage whatsoever, and De Sciglio starting :howler: This will result in opponents getting tons of opportunities because there'll be no one tracking back and helping to cover/protect the defense.
