Vidal was a star in the Bundesliga that would have signed with Bayern if Leverkusen didn't refuse to sell him there.
Like he was really really really good. Maybe not a household name yet, but was about to be.
He was not some average talent developed at Juve out of nowhere. Signing him was like signing a player like Dybala.
I know he was a decent talent at Leverkusen, and since Rudi Völler didn’t want to sell him to Bayern, he ended up at Juve. But I remember that year, a lot of Juve fans actually rated Inler higher than Vidal. He wasn’t a star by any means—just a promising talent with good potential, the right age, a fair price tag, and some solid interest from other clubs. But it’s not like he was some guaranteed world-beater.
In my opinion, Vidal joined Juve at the perfect time. Under Conte, in the right system and environment, he became a star and one of the best midfielders in Europe. Had he arrived a year earlier, under Delneri during that chaotic, toxic phase, he might’ve flopped.
and what happened with Vidal at Juve back then also happened with plenty of others—Pogba, Lichtsteiner, Marchisio, Bonucci, Barzagli... they all managed to become the best version of themselves. That Juve was a winning team, with the right mentality and the right coach. Now It’s the complete opposite. Almost no one at Juve is playing at their peak. If anything, players come here and decline.
That’s really the point I’m trying to make—coaching, club atmosphere, and the overall context matter
a lot. Look at Koopmeiners, Douglas Luiz, and others we're trashing right now. If we’re being honest, most of them were in a better place at their previous clubs than Vidal was at Leverkusen and Big teams were after them too.
The reason they’ve turned into dead weight at Juve isn’t just about their individual quality—it’s deeper than that. Until Juve fixes its underlying issues, no amount of transfers will change anything. Just like what’s been happening at United. Since 2020, we’ve basically rebuilt the entire squad twice, and we’re still going in circles.
