We're in the rebuilding phase and people talk about spending €40m on a 31 year old Koulibaly to replace our 22 year old star defender.

As much I like Koulibaly, he is not a €40m transfer. His contract is running out next year so you can't expect anyone to pay that price. If he was 25 years old maybe he'd be worth it and if he had 3 years left on his contract, MAYBE he would be worth €70-80m. But at 31, with a single year left, I wouldnt offer anything more than €20m. And dont even think about including Gatti. Gatti is just the kind of players we should stack as we are currently rebuilding

I wonder what de Ligt's actual worth is if you think one of the best defenders in Seria for the past what 7 8 years is worth 20 million?
By your estimates I would place de Ligt's after 3 mediocre seasons at the same value since he has 2 years on his contract but performs way worse.

Pellegrini -> Cabiasso
Chiellini -> Koulibaly or Ndicka or Badiashielle
Rabiot -> Pogba
Arthur -> Fagioli
Bernardeschi -> Kostic
Dybala -> DiMaria
Morata -> Aunatovic
Kean-> Zaniolo

Who will the best signing be? Chiesa's return ;)
This will not happen, but would be great Mercato (in current situation). Next year we can pay big on LW (replacing Di Maria) and LB (Sandro replacement)

Only Pogba is confirmed and rumours about Zaniolo show that we are fed up waiting for di Maria answer.But my question is who are the replacements for de ligt and chiellini? Milenkovic Romagnoli Bremer Koulibaly.
Lolmagnoli would be an absolute disaster, an aberration of cataclysmic proportions. Milenkovic is also meh. I don't think KK comes here, so we're left with Bremer, but we might even be late to that party. In other words, we're kinda fucked.

If on average a players career ends at 35, Koulibaly has 4 years left. That means zero resell value to anyone acquiring him now. If you spend €70-80m on de Ligt at offer him 5 year contract, he'll be 27 and still have a resell value of maybe €50-60m at that time. In theory it'll only cost you €20-30m to sign de Ligt right now as you can probably make that money when if you sell him on in 5 years. Contracts is a key part of such business ofc, but I don't think we're rich enough to do another big money deal for a player with zero resell value (Higuain a former example). Signing a 30+ year old for huge money is just a rich club luxury and we're in no such position. If we get €75m for de Ligt now, effectively that'll make up the money we spend to sign him from Ajax and his real cost is only the wages and agent fees

Gvardiol? Botman? Badiashile? There is so much good talent out there but we insist on shopping domestically. One thing these 3 have in common is that they are all left-footed defenders as well, which we could really do with now that Chiellini has left.

I`d be ok with 20M+Arthur but Im really against the 50M thing.
How much did Arthur cost the club?

Are they good though or just hype?

I watched Gvardiol once and he wasn't impressive at all, he got caught ball watching twice that led to big chances (one was scored the other a bad miss). I'm sure there was a Dutch poster here who didn't rate Botman.
