I don’t understand this Tuz obsession with height. The majority of great midfielders of the last decade have been short. Xavi, Iniesta, Modric...

Short midfielders are more agile and hence more likely to win second balls.

Short midfielders are also usually better dribblers because of their short legs and low centre of gravity.

One thing I dislike about SMS is that he lacks mobility because of his big body.

- let's realize in two years that the amortization is too heavy on the budget
- let's extend the contract which is only possible with an insanely high salary
- let's realize a bit later that the player isn't motivated anymore
- let's try to offload the player, which will prove to be impossible due to high wages

at least arthur is not 28 yet, so there's a chance we can move him if necessary

exactly. that's what i tried to explain in the earlier post.

also, pjanic is clearly in the same shoes: he doesn't want to play here anymore. so on paper, arthur is a younger, cheaper alternative with the same shitty motivation. what an upgrade.

imagine someone like pellegrini (currently on ~2m at roma), who's not an inferior player to current arthur, physically stronger, italian, 100% more motivated too, with a 30m release clause. but we can't get him, because pjanic is practically unsellable, unless we can find a club with the same need for that inflated capital gain and a more or less suitable player to offer in exchange. that's how jj rolls nowadays. pretty embarrassing.

We should look to the gross costs of Pjanic now, and that of Arthur when he comes and we’ve te keep in mind that we can profit of the new tax laws.

pjanic's contract runs out at 2023, his current book value is 17,5, he's on 7,5m net, his yearly cost is ~17,5-18m plus eventual bonuses. arthur on a 5-year deal, with 80m purchase price, on a ~5,2m net would cost us ~23,8m per season. damn, i thought arthur would save some costs, but no, he's even more expensive than pjanic, by quite a margin.

Something is wrong IMO as you considered the price of Arthur but disregarded Pjanic's sale price
Arthur may be "worth" 80m but the amount we pay is actually 10m since Pjanic will be sold for 70m.
Im no expert at this but I guess it means something..

Also is it total cost divided by total years?
If it is it may increase costs but allow us to stretch the fair play thing for the summer or am I wrong?

I think Pjanic - Arthur exchange is the best we can do in terms of financial aspect.

Last 2 years, we can only afford Ronaldo and De Ligt huge transfer fee with the help from our friend clubs when they bought young and potential players (Audero, Orsolini, Mandragora, Cerri,...) from us. Now we don't have any to sell, and our friend can't help us anymore due to the pandemic (they are also in red in fact). We are short of cash, so demanding us to spend right now without sacrifice is too unrealistic.

The book value of Pjanic right now in is 17,5m, as we bought him on 2016 so after 4 seasons, his book value is only 6m plus his wage. The book value of Arthur with the speculated fee and wage is 24m, but for this year we will gain 70m + 17,5m - 24m = 62,5m. This is huge and necessary for us in this pandemic time. It will allow us to further purchase if needed.

For the next seasons, the cost of Arthur is higher than Pjanic, of course, but he is 23 years old, not 30 years old with almost no resale value like Pjanic. After 2-3 seasons, we can cash on him if needed. We are very lucky that Barca is on the same financial situation like us and they also want Pjanic, so we can have a chance to make this deal possible.

We now need a strong midfielder to partner him and Bentancur and our midfield could be set.
I still think we really need an attacker - Since I think Ronaldo does his best coming from wide while Dybala IMO is the same but from the other direction + Our obvious need in a finisher - a central forward is very important but it needs to be someone who can run dribble and shoot well as well as be a threat in the box - Not too many of these kind of forwards are available...
I can see why we want Milik (although I still think that he might has the characteristics but he is not good enough)
As for the Jimenez guy - I dont know him but if he possesses these attributes he can be very useful

Arthur is less soft and is way more unpredictable than Pjanic.
as for creating chances - Pjanic overall is better since I rate the player and not current form BUT for us Pjanic is no longer a creator because of his motivation what makes Arthur as a better creator (for us).

That being said - It is worth nothing if we dont add another top midfielder!

I really like Jimenez, I've been flaunting his name around for some time now, shame he's 29 but at the right price I'd definitely take him, his over all build up play is very underrated imo and something I feel will suit this current set up. Would I take him over Milik? almost certainly but again the price is everything, hope Mendes can work some magic here.
