Bentancur is developing along nicely. Probably already better than Marchisio at the same age whom you used to overhype back in the day.

He is like the only bright spark in our midfield right now. The best of a bad bunch but he has some way to go obviously.

When we had Pirlo, Pogba, Vidal, Marchisio...Bentancur wouldn't have even come close to benching any of them.

To say he is developing nicely in a star-studded midfield like Khedira, Matuidi and Rabiot certainly doesn't say much.

Marchisio was an inconsistent jabroni at age 23.

Bentancur has the potential to be even better if he keeps up his consistency of this season.

Implying he'll never reach Marchisio's level is way too premature of an opinion.

No, I got your point. No offense if I take your opinion on how a player develops with a grain of salt when you said Cancelo would fix our RB problem for years to come.

I mean if you want consistency I guess Bentancur consistently gives you average to slightly above average performances with the occasional brain fart in front of defense.

He is our best midfielder right now though, I will admit that.

When we had Pirlo, Pogba, Vidal, Marchisio...Bentancur wouldn't have even come close to benching any of them.

To say he is developing nicely in a star-studded midfield like Khedira, Matuidi and Rabiot certainly doesn't say much.

And 27 year old Marchisio in his prime got benched by a 20 year old Pogba.

A young Marchisio wouldn't have even come close to benching a midfield of Pirlo, Pogba or Vidal either

But Marchisio went on to become one of our more serviceable midfielders

That's because Pogba was world class. But Marchisio played in a midfield and survived in a midfield of Pogba, Vidal, and Pirlo (all world class). That alone sets him above current Bentancur because he wouldn't have gotten a sniff. The only reason we even looked at him was b/c Tevez wanted to go back home and we wanted to get a couple players with potential.

Like I said, he is our best midfielder now, which doesn't say much, but he is progressing quite nicely, I agree.

And you have been hyping mediocre trash like Giovinco and the likes back in the day

Cancelo was a talented player who unfortunately dint have the right mentality to be an ideal fit at a top club

If Bentancur is going to explode, he needs MUCH better players around him and we need to get rid of the other filth plaguing those positions and put in some better players.

All I'm saying he has a place in this starting eleven and that's honestly the only good thing Sarri has done this season.

Sarri really needs to try him in front of defense. Maybe he is waiting for Ramsey to be fit to play on the RCM.

Didn’t Claudio played as a LM at 22? Probably was misused under Delneri, he exploded when Conte arrived.

It's not really a fair comparison of how good a player will be by looking at x player at 22 compared to another at 22.

Players develop at different ages. There have been plenty who exploded in their early 20s and stagnated or regressed. Similarly there are guys who peaked late in their careers.

I'm a huge fan of Bentancur, always have been. But he is a very different player to Marchisio and I think people should curb their expectations that he will become a goalscoring mid like him or Vidal. He has the ability but his game is completely different.

Marchisio was tremendous for us and I think people look back and underrate him given the other mids at that time. If anything people should think he was every bit as important as Pirlo, Pogba and Vidal to us. Look back at the goals in our first season in 2011-12, he scored so many important ones.

If Bentancur gets close to the player that Marchisio was for us I'd be delighted, he certainly has the ability and attitude to do it.
