At no time last year did Dybala play as a target or false 9. And when we played with a 2 man midfield Mario was playing LM and tracking back to do the dirty work. Costa or Ronaldo arent doing that out wide and if you think Ronaldo is a like for like for Higuain you're playing too much FIFA. Ronaldo's position is a support striker that can roam. He's not occupying the CBs. Much differt than Higuain. Ronaldo is going to need a partner to do the dirty work. I like him paired with Mario.

But yet Benzema has provided him with more CL assists than any other Madrid player. I just don't see Max playing him as a lone striker.
where did i say we played Dybala as a target/false 9? we did that once, in the Coppa against Genoa i think, and he did a fantastic job btw. after moving away from the 4231 of last season, we played a lot of games in a 442/433 shape, where Dybala-Higuain was supported by D. Costa from the right, and Matuidi was acting as a CM/LM on the left. 1st game that comes to mind is Napoli away, but there were many more:

Dybala-Ronaldo functions because both will create space for each other, not take it away (like Higuain did with Dybala). Ronaldo gives you an aerial threat, but will not camp between CBs obviously. he will move around and attack space without the ball, something Higuain was bad at. he is also getting rid of the ball more quickly, where as Higuain used to hold onto it for too long, ruining some promising attacks. depending on who the other 2 CMs next to Pjanic are, this could be one heck of an exciting team to watch

exactly.
While I agree that Godin is good and a couple Chiellini-Godin would make me wet even if I am man....
We really need to rejuvenate our cbs lineup.

I would "claim" to be happy with Godin if instead of Barzagli and Benatia we had 1younger cb to pair up with Caldara.
I want not more than 4 cbs.

I want Godin-Chiellini and Caldara+someone young as well.

Are we really sure the club will sell Higuain? If they do, will Mandzukic be deployed as a centerforward or will we have to get a new guy in?
Ronaldo has primarily played on the left in a three-man attack at Real, with a centerforward in front that can keep the central defense of the other team occupied, so he is free to arrive late in the box, search the area just outside or be isolated with a full back at the far post. Would it really make sense to ship Higuain? Maybe it could work with Ronaldo as a lone CF - i assume we are going to deploy variations of the 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 and expect stuff like the 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 to be rare sights.

Ronaldo in his Real time has:
As LW: 322 games (28k minutes), 335 goals (83.5 min/goal), 108 assists (63.2 min/(G+A)).
As CF: 92 games (7800 minutes), 93 goals (83.8 min/goal), 28 assists (64.5 min/(G+A)).

I mean, he produces regardless, but i wonder if he prefers playing at LW? He may thus have played as a CF when it was needed. Also, these stats does not account for the distribution of quality of opponents. Crazy stats by the way.

One could argue that it gives flexibility, but if Higuain is sold, there wouldn't be a lot of other options for the CF. I don't see Dybala playing there. Mandzukic could do it. But would having Ronaldo, Higuain, Mandzukic as CF options and Ronaldo, Mandzukic and Costa as LW options really be too much? Dybala to play 10 or RW, same goes for Bernardeschi, who might even get to play a bit in midfield if the 4-3-3 will be the preferred formation. Costa would probably also get time on the right, but what about Cuadrado?

In a four man front line
--------- Higuain/Ronaldo/Mandzukic
Ronaldo/Mandzukic/Costa - Dybala/Bernardeschi - Costa/Cuadrado/Dybala/Bernardeschi

Lots of options for the right wing, and if Allegri goes for a three man midfield most of the time, there would be a lot of competition.. Front three:

Costa/Ronaldo/Mandzukic - Ronaldo/Higuain/Mandzukic - Dybala/Cuadrado/Costa

and then Bernadeschi in midfield?

Interesting to see how the final squad will be. With 50+ games in a season, and probably a few injuries along the run, there should be enough game time for everybody, and the squad should give Allegri the option to alter formation and playstyle across games. Glad i am not Allegri, those options will give serious headaches (at least the good kind of headaches i guess)...

Yes, but we were much better when we played with a real 4-3-3, like the game in Madrid when Dybala was suspended. Our midfield did really well in that game.

A two man midfield with Pjanic is way too soft.

Dybala's position will again be a problem for Allegri to solve. He might try the 4-3-1-2 as Real had success with that formation. That could work with Costa playing as a ten.
yes, 433 without one of Dybala/Higuain (mostly was Dybala) was when we played at our best, but surely we arent benching Dybala? the best team we can field is 43DRC (Dybala, Ronaldo, Costa). since Dybala and Ronaldo wont do much work on the flanks, you need one of the CMs to do it. last season it was Matuidi on the left as a CM/LM, while Costa would be a RW/RM on the right, hence 442/433. Costa can play both flanks, so when you put him on the left, you need someone to do the Matuidi work on the right. Emre Can? no idea if he can do it. or make it a classic 442 with Cuadrado-Cancelo on the right. there are many options for Max here due to the versatility of the squad

Why would anyone want to swap benatia for Godin? Benatia was our best defender and absolutely vital, Godin would have been good to years ago but makes no sense on spending money on him, makes no sense to sell benatia either

Valued at 20m: https://m.calciomercato.com/news/juve-ecco-quanto-costa-godin-30661

Get him.

Chiellini, Godin, Benatia, Caldara, Barzagli.

Rugani out.
if thats true (20M price), and we can get him for Benatia level wages (3M a year net), that would be absolutely brilliant. i imagine Benatia would cost atleast 20M as well, if we were to sell him. thats an immense upgrade in typical Beppe fashion, without any sacrifices financially.

i would like to add, if we do get Diego, rest him and Chiellini and play Caldara as much as possible in Serie A games. we need them fresh and at 100% for them CL nights
