Tax law aids Ronaldo to Juve?
By Football Italia staff

Cristiano Ronaldo would benefit from a new tax law in Italy if he moved to Juventus after Real Madrid failed to defend him on a €19m tax evasion fine.

It’s widely reported that Ronaldo’s rapport with President Florentino Perez broke down definitively after the court case over tax evasion, which saw him given a two-year suspended prison sentence and €19m fine.

According to Il Mattino newspaper, a new tax reform law in Italy would benefit foreign players coming in to Serie A.

The Flat Tax introduced in 2017 was put in place to encourage foreign investors and celebrities to move to Italy, allowing them to pay a maximum of €100,000 on income from abroad.

That would include sponsorship contracts, capital gains and even real estate.

“This sort of tax situation was introduced to attract stars toward our league,” Legalitax lawyer Sergio Sirabella told Il Mattino newspaper.

“Italy is one of the few European countries that has such a favourable fiscal regime towards professionals of this calibre. The family members of players can also go into a diminished tax bracket, as €25,000 would be enough for them.”
