And I've got to say - I hate how this makes me seem like the biggest Bonucci fan ever when in fact I'm exactly the opposite. But I hate how people overreact to everything and make it seem like end of the world.

No, I'm making it clear both teams would benefit from it. Other people are making this to be the worst thing ever, like we're getting Ranocchia or something. Same people that had a meltdown when Bonucci was sold last year.
Yea we had a meltdown because we were losing a player who had been a mainstay in our success, and given the names we were linked to we were panicking.

However we do not need him now, we have 5 cbs currently and we do not need another one. That's the difference, we don't need him at all. He will not improve this team, like I said in previous posts, if we want to improve this team we need another addition in midfield

Nobody thinks its the end of the world. Its the terms of the deal(if true) which is really painful to bear(especially with no buyback )

When you're expected to rejuvenate the defense in a couple of years, we either are left to overpay in an inflated market or weaken other positions so we could get the money to shore up the defense(both correlated). We're heavily banking on the short term. Even if Ronaldo is a worthwhile risk, Bonucci on other hand is not IMO.

It would be a failure if we dont win CL this year(considering the amounts we're committing to older players)

We missed his playmaking ability a lot this season, so yeah he will improve the team. Especially with the kind of wing backs we have now, wingers and a striker who attacks open space. Just from defensive standpoint we don't need him, but denying obvious benefits offensively is not right.

Yeah, I agree. There are some downsides for sure, especially if we don't win the CL in the next 2 years I would say, but it's a calculated risk. As I said, this is our best team in 10 years IMO, and if we don't win the CL title now when Real lost Ronaldo to us, Bayern has a young coach and not the best squad, Barcelona in flux, we never will. This is our window right now and Bonucci gives you more security at least than a young player in his shoes.

Besides, you never know what will happen down the line. Who could've predicted this bunch of scenarios happening two years ago? Maybe we already have an agreement with De Ligt for next summer. Maybe we buy Caldara back in a few years with or without the buyback clause. Maybe Romagnoli gets tired of bad teams and we get him. You never know.

But this team right now is all in on CL. We as fans judge everything on CL success and the team is making win now moves. Can't have it both ways.

If we're really all in, I think we need Khedira out and SMS in

I had lost hope about us winning CL until we bought Ronaldo but if you're going to take a risk and make signings to win CL, atleast you do with players who can last for 4-5 years at the top so the window of opportunity can be longer. As i said, Ronaldo is a worthwhile risk not just for his on the pitch exploits but if our 'playmaking' is the issue, then we could address the situation differently than committing money on an old Bonucci with high wages. I've made my point. I dont think Bonucci would be key to our CL assault and this dumb swap will make matters worse atleast as far as reinforcing the defense for the future is concerned.

Exactly. No one seems to address the elephant in the room - Our midfield.

We bought Can as the major replacement for our midfield. Our defense was set as it is. All we needed is a WC midfielder if we really wanted to go all in, rather than Bonucci.

how exactly would we be benefiting from getting Bonucci back? he is terrible, we are gifting them a huge talent in Caldara and a great goal scorer in Higuain who I hope they either pay $60m or gtfo sell to Chelsea for $55m whilst taking the traitor and one that has declined so bad in the last year and only realizes he wants to come back because CR7 is here so he wants a chance at UCL glory smh, we are losing here if you ask me.

Of course he would.

Adding another player who can make the game from the back will make it harder for our opponents to press us and take pressure away from Pjanic. I agree that Ideally we should add another mid to help do so, but who knows, maybe the targeted players are too expensive, or maybe the management is even fine with our current pool of midfielders.

Whatever is the case, having another player to help make the game is highly appreciated, if that player is a CM or a CB is of secondary importance to me.

A lot of people here are missing the most important point - Caldara wants to leave. He doesn't want to end up like Rugani, rotting on the bench for 3 years without any progress, he wants first team football.

If he has to leave it's better we get a world class CB in exchange rather than 30 million we can't do anything with.
