The positive thing about losing Keita is that we must be seriously considering keeping Dybala for the long term.

If Keita had come, pretty sure Dybala was gone. No way we were gonna be that stacked in attack.
Adding to you positive note, we also still have Pjaca..hope this kid can overcome his injury and explode

Said for weeks but we don't need Keita, he was just an opportunity for a low price or free, if not then not really bothered.
Well with our current strategy were we sell if a player asks to leave, it would be nice if we had picked up young talents like Keita or Schick this summer, so we dont have to make panic buys when one of our stars want to leave next summer.... If we try to look at the facts, then we lost one the last 3 summers so I would assume we will lose one next year as well.

We can't just stockpile players this season because someone might leave us next summer.

Well if we loaned Kean, we would have 8 players for 4 positions, that would be okay I think - plus Pjaca is a long way from fit. So I wouldn't call it stockpiling - more planing ahead..
We actually have more than one reserve for each position in midfield and in defence ( with Howedes )
And personally I would gladly have sacrificed Cuads if that meant us getting Keita or Schick....

So basically two of the top attacking prospects in Serie A were both clamouring to come here. And we completely fuck one up and lowball the other. Which would be fine if we had the will power and the wage budget to make sure our best players stayed. But we don't. And when we cash in on whichever attacker we sell next, we'll be left chasing dreams until settling on a similar prospect, but one with a big contract and no extreme desire to play for us. Nice.

So many pages today. Can you give me some summary @Mark or @dusan (Dusan's new username is too hard to remember)?

Höwedes coming, Keita went to Monaco, no Strootman and no Spina? Was that all?

What were we supposed to do with Keita? have him as a third LW and third AM/SS? its ridiculous. We didn't need Keita, he wanted us but we can't indulge every player that wants us. The kid complains at Lazio and asks to be sold every 6 months because he has 0 patience. You think he would be cool just sitting on our bench getting 0 minutes because he is literally the player that defends and tracks back the least at Lazio? It would be toxic, the solution would be to bump him up in the pecking order and then its RIP Pjaca and Cuadrado. Two players which costed us like 55m combined plus the 25 or 30m for Keita.

That's why I was saying from the beginning that it makes sense to arrange him for free next summer. His best position is CF anyway which is perfect for us.

    no Keita, no Schick
    MAYBE Spina
    Strootman less likely
negotiating for Genoa duo Pellegri and Salcedo

Like I said yesterday, you buy them and you loan them straight back to the clubs they come from. Because we unlike the other clubs don't need him straight away, we can take advantage of this.

So we match the offer of Roma, Milan, Inter whoever but we let the former club keep the player for a long transition period. They get a nice cash boost, they keep the player and they have 1 season to plan out a replacement.

And 'RIP Pjaca and Cuadrado' is not a good reason

Keita is currently >>>>>>>>>>>> both of them. And Pjaca should be loaned out if anything. He's shown nothing worth giving minutes to over a more established player, and Cuadrado is embarrassingly poor on the ball now. He's constantly recycling possession and ruining most of our attacks.

Never really wanted Keita so not upset about that at all. Hopefully Howedes proves to be a good addition. Right back is my biggest worry right now.

    This

We will regret missing out on these two great opportunities.

Did the board really think both Schick and Keita would sit and wait an entire year to join us for free?

Two class young players who actually want to join us.

    What went wrong?
