And so did every other Sporting Director out there it seems.

Let's say you and I go troll all of the other teams forums to tell them how their DS missed out on him.
considering we needed a full back and spent weeks fannying about getting told to fuck off by atalanta this was more of a no brainer to us than most other teams out there

Howedes is a solid CB, l'd take him for 20 m euros, is a bargain. still think we need a Rb. Pereira's clause increased to 37 m euros. in Ligue 1, such clauses doesn't exist.

Boateng plays injured and it extend his injuries. on his day, he is a top CB and it's impossible to get him. but l don't why we didn't try for someone like Tah. he will be a WC in few years.

None of these journalists know what's going on so I'm going to go with the most original plan. Schick. Why is he stalling on making a decision? My guess is he's waiting on juve.

Howedes , RB, Strootman, Schick, Kieta.

We will sign 2 maybe 3 of these at most. Such a strange Mercato plenty of opportunities in positions we dont need and none in the positions we need the most.

Howedes seems favoured for being being able to play CB and RB. How good is he at RB?
More athletic Barzagli basically as RB.

But I'm guessing he is being acquired for his versatility so it would cancel any ideas for a fullback signing.

I dont think that would be too bad as we are covered going forward so we could do with a RB that is there just to defend and doesnt have to be too capable going forward.

I really don't think that's how you succeed in current football. The game favors the risk takers and attacking sides. Look at the top teams and the running backs in those are pretty much wingers.

Since just before the start of Serie A, the management's priorities seem pretty clear. 1st needed a competent workhorse CM - Matuidi. Next, needed another full back option - first link with Spinazzola (who can play both sides) and finally settling for Howedes. If he does well, we could buy him out next season. Barzagli may retire after this season and we could bring in Caldara and Spinazzola next season.

So this season: Lichsteiner, De Sciglio, Rugani, Chiellini, Barzagli, Benatia, Sandro, Howedes
Next season: Spinazzola, De Sciglio, Rugani, Caldara, Chiellini, Benatia, Howedes, Sandro - subject to change depending on performances and opportunities

As things stand, we are set after Howedes. From here, I would not be surprised if the squad stays as is.

However, if Strootman can happen (via a Cuadrado swap deal while landing Keita), then that is possible. Or Renato Sanches as a loan could be opportunistic.

My sense is that in terms of squad numbers, they want to have 8 defenders but with enough depth and versatility to play a back 3 or 4 all season long - that is achieved with Howedes. Midfield - probably 6 of good enough quality to either adopt a mid 3 or 2 all season long. My sense is that forwards? 7 is the right number where you have 3 capable as playing as strikers and the remaining as wing based forwards. Cuadrado and Costa are too similar in a way so I could see them offloading Cuadrado if the right exchange was possible.

After Howedes, I think the last transfers would happen on the last day if at all.

Tah is not for sale this year and Leverkusen have alteady sold some players and have earnt enough money. Their plan was always to keep Tah, Brandt, Henrichs & Havertz.
