Comparing the 15 squad to the 17 squad is kind of pointless. The 15 squad was more physical but less creative. Pirlo was heavily depended on and he didn't always have a great game. From an offensive point of view, the 17 squad was much more dangerous offensively - what it lacked in physical solidity it made up for with its offensive outlet. So they are VERY different teams. In fact, I rate the 17 squad higher overall. I rated our chances of beating Barcelona before the final as very low while I was somewhat more hopeful for this final.

Alves will be a big loss next year. But if we can keep the 1st team players from last year and add new dimensions with Costa, Matuidi, Bernardeschi, Schick and hopefully a fit Pjaca - injury permitting we will be a LOT stronger overall. Other powerhouses like Madrid, Bayern, Barca etc are probably going to be as strong or stronger still though.
They have some serious work to do. Ribery is finished and if they sell Costa to us then there is a big hole on the left in a position where they had a truly world class player. Robben still has it but soon enough time will catch up with him too. Alonso is a third loss that is very tough to replace as well.

They'll be playing catch up to Madrid and Barca just like us. Signing Sanchez would be a good start to fill those gaps but they really have their work cut out for them.

Bayern gonna play

Robben---James---Ribery
------------Lewa

We gonna play

Berna---Dybala---Costa
----------Higgy

:weee:
James will play LW for Bayern if he comes and if he can bench Ribery. There is no way they are going to bench Tiago, who at this moment in time is a superior player to James.

James EASILY over Costa, not even close.

Tho yeah James is not a winger, tho he can be good there, just not his ideal position.
Why in the world is James easily better than James? For all the complaints about Costa having a bad season, James has been really disappointing the last two seasons. Obviously he still has a lot of quality, but whenever I seen him i seems like he have lost a step, making it hard for him to get past his man in one on one situation.

For me it is quite hard to compare the two players as each players main strenght is also the other players main weakness.

he said something like juve won't stop buying high profile players, didn't he.

edit: "Will we sign more top players like Higuain? We won’t backtrack now."
No it was meant to be on the lines of we will continue spending not that we'll buy 'star players' or high profile players or whatever.

Thiago-Drunkturo
Robben-James-Ribery
Lewa

Dont think their other CMs are worth benching either James or Robbery (unless im forgetting someone), so i think this is how they would line up

I have to agree with you that James has a higher ceiling than Douglas. However, we need to consider a few factors:

1. Price
James will be 80mln purchase while Douglas 40 with very favorable conditions if true.

2. Position
Colombian excels at CAM, we need a winger which Costa is.

3. Actual performance
James has been a disappointment in Madrid. Besides that he was a wonder kid in Porto and at Monaco? I don't think they challenged for Ligue 1 even though he had Moutinho and Falcao to help him. Obviously there is the World Cup but I can easily summon Forlan here.
Neither Costa has been anything outstanding but the first two factors give him the victory in that comparison. I also forgot to mention that James seems to be a primadonna.

Putting Thiago into a holding midfielder in a midfield two will limit him a lot. As I recall James was mostly used as a inside RW in a 4-3-3 under Carlo in Real.
