Even if Vidal asked to leave then we get to the more pathetic part is the value being mentioned. Terrible terrible business from Marotta if true.
I'd expect 70m as a fair price for Vidal two years ago, but for 28 yo with injury struggles, after a mediocre season? If he asked to be transfered to Bayern then it becomes even more difficult to reach fair price. 40m seem about right all things considering.

Jack, if I may indulge myself for a moment.

Let's say that it is indeed true that Vidal asked to leave.

How much of a market would there be for a 28 year old midfielder who had a poor, by his standards, season, with 2 years left on his deal, and whose exploits at Copa America were greatly overshadowed by yet another off the field incident. This time, nearly killing himself and his wife, and any innocent bystanders who would have happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time?

How much could you realistically ask for a player that a club such as Real Madrid felt the need to publicly state they were not interested in him anymore in light of his DUI and accident?

And I agree that his value to the club is worth more than what you can put a pricetag on, but if we are looking at the tangible, I really don't know how much we could have gotten for him.
For starters, I would see why such a valuable player wants to leave the club. Is it motivation? Well we just reached the CL final a few weeks back. Is it because he wants to win the CL? We have equal chances of winning it as the other teams supposedly and we have vision and we are doing the right reinforcements to win the damn thing.

Did it occur to you why did he have a bad form last season? I thought it was obvious that the knee injury was the reason and we saw how his form started to become better since February. He was crucial when Pirlo and afterwards Pogba were injured. He continued to go to Copa and be the best player of the tournament bringing a historic trophy for his country. He is 28 years old and recovering his beast form. He is going to peak next season. Now if we fail to convince him to stay, we could at least leave him options to choose a couple of teams that would go into a bidding war for his signature. Let's say Bayern being one of them, we could have gotten at least 50 M€. But no, we chose to accept the first approach, we even let him talk to Bayern and agree terms before they came knocking our doors. Just like we do with provincial sides in the league. We looked like Udinese compared to Bayern in Europe!

But hey, feel free to defend the club blindly, this is the trend here obviously.

How many injuries did he have? If I can remember, it was ONE fucking damn knee injury with a successful surgery that took some time to recover and some time to regain form. When he recovered and started to catch form it was all going upwards for him. Don't be a blind believer and try to find silly excuses but who am I kidding, this is what you usually do, it's your oxygen.

This is terrible. I can accept losing Vidal but we should be asking for more than this. And Draxler is the target? You don't replace a world class player with potential. Look at how that worked out for Spurs and Liverpool. If we don't land Gotze, Ozil, Isco, Oscar or somebody like that I'll be pissed. We're pulling a Dortmund/Atleti. Get to the CL final and weaken the squad immediately. What's worse is that it looks like Khedira will now be a starter. I was okay with him coming in as a rotation player but he's not even close to good enough to fill the void Vidal will leave. Disappointed is an understatement.

You're kidding, right? He has been struggling throughout entire last season due to pain in his knee. But feel free to get ahead of yourself, like last year or the year before, or... you get the pattern.

How am I defending the club blindly?

Where do you see me defending the club and agreeing with this move? This guy is my favorite player on this club, and has been ever since he arrived :howler:

I was one of the two or three people screaming on his thread when everyone else wanted to throw him to the wolves, that he deserves the benefit of the doubt for everything he gave us the three seasons prior

If you are going to be a dick, be a dick to the right people, Jack.

Or just put me on your ignore list, as obviously I have fallen into that category of "people that you once highly respected who have disappointed you"

How was vidal in the final? Return to form? Two three years ago he was maybe the best all around mid in the world. He was nowhere near that at any point last season. Players with his style have a shorter shelf life. He's already declining. Marotta is dealing with it. Rather do it early than late.

I apologise if I sounded like a dick. I respect you highly, always did and always will. I am just extremely angry at how we have operated in the market this summer

I wanted to trust the management, I wanted not to question any deal they have done and I convinced myself that paying 40 M€ for Dybala, 22 for Mandzukic and that sum for Zaza were actually good moves. I convinced myself that Tevez left on Boca's terms is fine.
I convinced myself that all these signings we did early had a reason that I am not aware of, that they have a plan and they are executing it early and properly, then came this. I am not in shock. I am disgusted! None of the purchaces make sense, we overpaid for Dybala, Mandzukic and got robbed on Zaza and all these three combined are not even as good as Tevez's right toe.
Khedira is a player I never rated but he came for free and for depth it seemed like a good move granted we keep Pogba and Vidal. The deal looks as pathetic as the player is to me.
We fucking flew to Germany to sell him instead of letting that fuckface Rummenigge travel to Turin begging to buy Vidal. How pathetic can this man be? I am totally disgusted and I will not be one bit surprised if we sell Pogba by the end of the summer

I understand that you are upset, my good friend. And I sincerely mean the "my good friend" part.

And I feel your pain. I can't even look at the Vidal jersey on top of my pile of clothes without tearing up.

In my opinion, as jacked as this all is, I feel compelled to wait until the end of the mercato to see what this club looks like.. I almost feel obligated to do so, but right now, my optimism took a huge blow to the stomach

Vidal was terrible first half of the season and only came good from March onwards, even so, in the UCL final he was atrocious, permanently on the verge of getting sent off
