Saturday 16 February, 2008
There are reports Fiorentina have beaten Real Madrid to the signing of 18-year-old prodigy Stevan Jovetic – nicknamed the new Dejan Savicevic.

The Montenegrin support striker was a target for clubs all over Europe from Manchester United and Shakhtar Donetsk to the Merengues.

However, it is claimed in today’s Gazzetta dello Sport and the Corriere dello Sport that Viola transfer guru Pantaleo Corvino has leapt to the front of the queue.

Fiorentina reportedly have secured his signature for next season during negotiations ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Cup game with Rosenborg.

Jovetic stayed in Florence for three days and two nights to finalise the details of the contract.

Still only 18, he grew up in the Mladost Podgorica youth system before joining Partizan Belgrade in 2003.

He only signed his first professional contract with the club in August 2007 and is already the top scorer in the Serbian League with 11 goals in 17

gotta admit. the transfer-policy of fiorentina is AMAZING... If they continue like that, and we don't change OUR transfer-policy, in a couple of years, when neddy, del piero, trez, ... are gone, they will be FAR superior to us!

they will never be superior.they will stay as desperate 4th spot challengers
But that's only because they are financially inferior to the best Italian clubs. It doesn't mean they'll always be inferior in this aspect.
Something like that could change over night, Turk. Just look at Chelsea.

I would not be so sure about that. I mean they are really doing a good job given their financial possibilities. i think they are really doing the best out of it, and if they can show that they manage to consolidate 4th place, believe me, the money will follow. The difference in getting money between 3rd and 4th place is not that much. WE surely have fiat hooking us up, but from the transfer-policy point of view, i think they beat us this year...

Good move from Viola if true but tuttomercato said yesterday like it`s not over yet.

    Pazzini-Mutu-Jovetic

Looks promising with also Montolivo behind them.

Apparently the rumour is not exactly true... Their teamchef said they were following him but nothing sealed yet. he said they'll talk about that in the transfer-period.... maybe juve can come in there :) :)

Juventus are known to have good relations with Partizan FC, any other Juventus transfer manager than Secco , would have done this deal quickly and silently by now.

Looks like Viola have arranged everything for Jovetić.They will come to Belgrade by the end of the month to confirm it.They are ready to offer Partizan`s asking price which is 10mln euros.

Too bad we haven`t tried to sign him.

Viola scouts did an amazing job, again.

Btw, Dule, how can you explain the fact that a country with population
    ~650 000 produces such talents ?
The older members certainly remember il genio Savicevic who was Milan's best player in Capello's time there when Milan played 3 CL finals in a row and he was Red Star's best player in 1991 when they won the CL. If he wasn't a lazy bastard (as every Montenegrin is :D) he would have been considered as one of worlds all time best.
Then Predrag Mijatovic who took the CL from us in 1998 with his winning goal and who was Real Madrid's best player in Real's best years in late 90's. Another amazing player he was.

Mirko Vucinic is far from Savicevic and Mijatovic but he's really talented and being only 24 he'll become even better.
Simon Vukcevic, at 22, is imo the best player in Portuguese league after Quaresma.

And now Jovetic, who has all the tools to become one of worlds best.

How can a small and poor country like Montenegro, with population smaller than the population of the city of Genoa, produce such talents ?

    :lol2:

    Good question.But it`s not much though.Over all they had/has 4 great players. :p

But yeah,Vucinic is also great.Manchester also want him now.

I`m really interested to see if Jovetic is going to make it in Italy. If he continues doing like here he`s going to be one of the best in the world for sure.

I don`t know about them but we should keep an eye on Teleoptik (Partizan`s youth academy)They have really amazing young players.Partizan`s youth academy is second/third best in Europe I think.
