Jovetic has limited experience in CL, but I use that example because he's absolutely killed it when was there. He was the leader, the game changer, etc. He's also been a focal point of his National Team for a couple years, from a very young age. I really was bringing it all up to point out that the player doesn't shrink away from pressure situations (which is important for anyone coming to Juve). I think that's true. I think Vucinic would tell you that's true.
I'm not sure I would name temperament as one of Mirko's major strengths (generally speaking, although he's played well in a lot of big matches). I think his laziness can be linked to occasional moodiness - which is temperament - but to each his own. I do love Mirko, especially when he gets fiery
I get you buddy, and I know the profile of player you want. I'm not sure about the buyout clause, but even if it's there, all the top clubs will know about it; the player will have his choice from some very attractive options. But I see that as being in the future, Reus has been at the club for a year, he's now got an opportunity to grow into the leader of a top Bundesliga side (where he's comfortable, in a great league where his friends and colleagues on the NT generally play). I really do not see him wanting to leave that situation, it seems absolutely perfect for his development, it wouldn't make much sense to me - especially as they finished above us in CL, and could still win it all (Objectively: I think Juve is worthy of ANY player, but the league isn't that attractive right now, either).
And even if we weren't talking about Reus specifically, most of the players of his very high profile and age are going to be very difficult for us to compete for; I haven't seen Marotta seal any deal like that yet, and I think all the extra variables make a move like that quite unlikely. Generally, I more so see us looking at players that are out of favour at their current club - I think that's probably more our market.
I am not just some blind Jojo fanboy, I promise. There are other players out there I like, and I will not be crushed if we don't seal this deal. I do think Marotta has laid a lot of the ground work for Jojo, but with the issues last year, and Jojo's comments about wanting to win a Scudetto at Fiorentina, who knows what's going on.
I just think that if we are struggling to land a high quality attacker, which we have been for years, and if we end up in a situation where we have to overpay a little bit to land this guy (about 5M, imo) - or end up with another late, uninspiring purchase - I would pull the trigger. Unfortunately, if you wait on deals for major players, you often miss - as we both know very well, from watching recent markets.
I think this is on point, Baggio. Like I said in a couple of these posts, I see 30M as being about 5M overpayment, by current market gorilla math. I think the major difference (other than the obvious fact that I would make up that extra 5M and you wouldn't) is that I don't see it being realistic that we could reduce the amount of cash involved by as much you do. I think you were using numbers like 12-15M yesterday? Can't remember, but they were asking 30+ last year, I really think they'll still want considerable cash. But maybe there is an Amauri type transaction to be done here, I could see them wanting one of our players, we'll have to wait and see.
Would you do a deal for Jovetic for 20M + Quagliarella? Not sure the parties are a match, but something like that might be possible (I'm not just twisting your nipple here, I think that Qtube is the
most likely one to leave from the attackers we own, but we'll see).
I get you here bud. I get it. I still have doubts about Marotta completing a big cash transaction with another top club, and salary could be an issue with that type of high profile player, but I get where you're coming from. The thing about 'value', is that it's subjective, and it obviously changes. A team is a collective, and overpaying for a player or two - especially if they're going to be core guys for a long time, if they'll have considerable resale value should they eventually want to move to a Real, etc. - is something that I'm totally fine with at this point. Hell, if Jovetic turns into the player I think he ultimately can be, 25-30M plus a reasonable salary would turn into a huge value purchase. But that's just speculation.
Anyway, almost all top clubs DO overpay for a player or two occasionally; luckily I think that we have the right coach in place to avoid making the mistakes the club has made by overpaying for the wrong players in the recent past.
