Not really, they desperately need a striker who can put chances into the back of the net. Their over reliance on Messi for goals is going to hurt them in Europe.

I strongly doubt they'd get past the semi finals this season.
What happened to Zlatan? he was scoring goals for fun when he first joined.

and that machine stopped working for some reason.

Remember when lots of analysts predicted that switch of Etoo and Zlatan would be a flop. Its true.

Seriously, what more Eto'o needed to do to convince Barca to keep him?
For some reason, Pep was not convinced by Eto'o from the get go. Pep is too much of an idealist, and wants his whole team to be able to play football. He wanted a technical striker upfront, which is why he didn't like Eto'o and always dreamed of Zlatan. He failed to take into account team balance though. You need a bit of strength, a bit of pace and players that just work hard and do their job without anything fancy. You can't have a whole team full of technical players.

If you notice, all his decisions have been influenced by his ideals that the whole team should be made of technically astute players. Yaya Toure after his brilliant and consistent season last year, has now been dropped for the less impressive Busquets, just because the latters passing game and technical ability is better.

Also the purchase of Chygriniski(spelling?), he is a rather poor defender, but technically he is brilliant, and is one of the best defeners in Europe in terms of passing the ball and starting attacks.

What happened to Zlatan? he was scoring goals for fun when he first joined.

When he first came, he was scoring goals but his overall performances were not like the Zlatan of Inter, the fact that he was doing his job and scoring goals(decisive ones mind you) made people forget that his performances weren't up to scratch. ever since the club world cup though, his performances have become atrocious and he just can't score a goal if his life depended on it.

Eto'o has been designed into the Barça system, his movement and passing is suited a lot more than Zlatan's.

He wanted to move.

Actually Guardiola wanted to sell him two summers ago when he first came, he just didn't find a buyer that was willing to buy him for 34M. One would have thought that after the brilliant season Eto'o had with Barcelona, Pep would have been convinced to keep him

He didn't agree with a lot of people there did he? I remember him not wanting a new contract.

You might be right about him wanting out last season. But only because Pep tried to sell him the summer before, Pep always wanted a more technical striker, which imo is rather foolish. You need to have a balance in your team, and a team full of technical players as tempting as that sounds isn't really a practical idea.

Right, Pep's wanting to get rid of him would have caused it. I'd say Eto'o was relatively technical though, despite the flaws in shooting occasionally.

He is not bad technically, but when compared to Barcelona players he wasn't technical enough, at least according to Pep.
