Madrid Red Light Let Iniesta Leave For Barça

Real Madrid saw Andrés Iniesta leave their youth academy when he was a youngster to join Barcelona because his parents did not like where the club put the trainees.
The revelation has come to light in Sport as the creative midfielder continues to win plaudits for his impressive performances in the past few seasons for the Blaugrana.

At the age of 12, Iniesta impressed several clubs at a junior tournament in Brunete, where he appeared for his local side Albacete, and looked destined to move on.

His parents wanted him to join Real Madrid and they took up Los Merengues' offer and saw their son take his first steps on what they thought would a road to the Bernabéu.

Instead, the Spanish giants' home for their young starlets was close a red light district patrolled by local prostitutes and the Iniesta family were not impressed.

Barça youth team coach Enrique Orizaola knew the parents and was able to persuade them that their boy would be better off at Barça, where he would live in La Masia.

It took just one visit to Camp Nou for Iniesta's parents to see what was on offer and to agree to the switch, which they are probably not regretting.

Madrid midfielder Ruben De La Red collapses during Spanish cup game
7 hours ago

IRUN, Spain — Real Madrid midfielder Ruben De La Red will spend the night in hospital for precautionary reasons following his collapse during his team's Copa del Rey match with Real Union on Thursday.

Madrid medical chief Carlos Diez said De La Red suffered a sudden fainting fit brought on by exertion and was not in danger.

Diez said the Spain international has undergone tests which have produced normal results, and was expected to be released on Friday. De La Red will undergo further tests in the Spanish capital to find out why he fainted, Diez added.

De La Red fell face first as he was walking away from the penalty area in the 13th minute, silencing the crowd at Real Union's Gal Stadium.

The 23-year-old player required treatment for two minutes on the field before being carried off on a stretcher, having appeared to recover consciousness.

Fourteen months ago, Sevilla's Spanish international midfielder Antonio Puerta collapsed during a league game and died three days later after suffering prolonged cardiac arrest.

Madrid lost the fourth round first-leg game against the third-division team 3-2.

Can't stand Madrid, but hope this isn't too serious.
